Title: Sundial of the infinite?!?
Post by: Yawgmoth85 on November 25, 2013, 08:56:18 PM
So I heard {sundial of the infinite} was a bomb card. Is there something I'm missing? What is this good for? Any specific combos?

I'm just guessing. say an opponent has a bunch of stuff on the stack, about to combo off. End the turn. All that is gone

Sundial can only be used on your turn. However, it is useful for cards that have something happen "at the beginning of the next end step." Say, {Roon} exiles a creature your opponent controls. Now, instead of ending your turn normally, you can use Sundial to go straight to the cleanup step, skipping the end step and leaving that creature exiled. In fact, you can use it in response to the end step trigger while ending your turn normally to exile the trigger and make it so it doesn't resolve.

Your running aggro. Opponent wraths you when you swing with everything. Boom! Automatic end of your turn but all your creatures are still there. His wrath is canceled. Like an automatic do over. So unless they have another "wrath" card you do the same thing next turn.

Or did I completely misread it?

Beats the exile at endstep unearth clause in my {Sedris, the Traitor King} EDH deck.

A lot of examples that fit this. Yeah good card. a one colorless for whatever instant speed during your turn cancel for whatever your opponent comes at you with basically.

Your opponent can't usually wrath during your attack unless they have a {quicken} or something of that nature, but yes, that's the idea, to stop any undesirable spells that are on the stack or to auto trigger an "at the end of your turn" effect.

I just added one to my {Roon of the Hidden Realm} EDH deck yesterday!

It's very cheaply costed too, considering what you get. You can keep your {Geist of Saint Traft} token,

Nobody likes {time stop} because though its not repeatable at allbut completely kills all combos

Sorry, meant wrath as a generic term. Like -whatever/-whatever to creatures. But yes. A cheap rolled up news paper on a pets nose. Lol

{Sudden Disappearance} is pretty hilarious with it. As well as any end-of-turn flickers, like {Flickerwisp}, {Glimmerpoint Stag}, {Galepowder Mage}, and stuff that's supposed to leave at the end step, like unearth and tokens like {Elemental Mastery} and {Stone Idol Trap}. I have a deck built around these, and it's pretty fun. Not very reliable because you NEED to have the sundial out for it to work, but fun :P

...I really only ever see it used in {Phage the Untouchable} EDH decks, just so they can play Phage from the command zone. xD

Yes, it does work to keep {Ætherling} exiled. Do note, however, that it can only be used during your own turn, so you'd better try to kill {Ætherling} on your turn.

Would be great if you could combo somehow and use it their turn to keep  {Obzedat, Ghost Council} out of the game

If you're running blue, you can just use {Time Stop} to do exactly that.

You swing with creatures with first strike, the block with multiple creatures in order to kill it. You deal first strike damage then use sundial to end the turn. No other damage is dealt.

Hah, never thought to use it like that, that's clever!
