So I bought 10 boosters of variety of the standard sets. My wife and I split them to 5 boosters each to build decks and play together.
I pulled two {Godless Shrine} with both of my Gatecrash boosters.
Is this good or bad? Haha. I'm a terrible standard player.
Also, if anyone else has had a similar experience, or at least with good cards I would love to hear about it!
Two {Godless Shrine}s, that's pretty good. They are worth $20.
Edit: I meant both together are worth $20, not $20 each.

Esper and Black devotion/splash white are pretty popular right now. Also I have seen a couple of {W}{B}{R} decks doing pretty well in the last couple weeks.
Nice. I may make a deck for fnm again. I'm going to buy a booster box tomorrow. Well at least 36 packs of the standard sets, just to get a good feel. Maybe draw a freaking mythic.

WB is VERY popular in standard you have 2 awesome bombs in {Blood Baron of Viskopa} and {Obzedat Ghost Coucil} it's a great control/midrange deck that is hard to beat

Should I bother even buying theros packs?
I will probably buy 18 dragon maze and 18 Gatecrash if that's the case. As long as that's where the money cards are. If theros has money cards, is it worth the risk?
NO! Buy 18 Return to Ravnica 18 Gatecrash RTR has the best value currently (I think maybe GTC is better now) regardless those 2 have the best value. DGM only has Voice BBoV and the occasional Shockland for money. Where's RTR and GTC have lots of shock lands, PWs, and good cards in general!
I would also like to be able to get a good start on my FNM deck. I realize it won't be enough, but hopefully it will be close to a good start.

Yes. My wife and I just recently started playing sealed with each other. As today I bought 10 boosters of a variety of sets 5 each. And built a deck with them then played each other.
Plus, I don't have many standard cards.
I do not take cards I have at my store. I would lose a lot of money that way. Business is business and my personal playing is different.
Not to mention I could get smoked by the irs.
As far as the deck goes, I would probably home brew something. I just needed to know which sets had the most playable cards.
I meant like you could buy them from your store lol but true well post your deck here we like helping decks become as powerful as possible lol

Lol well as I'm sure you know there are a lot of good traders on here. But be careful I've had one bad trade :( so now I only trade with regulars

I completely understand. Unfortunately I've been reading the horror stories! Makes me catious.
Very true but if you stick to the regulars on the forum you'll be fine. Of you're really scared ask them to send to a Mod. I think Gorzo doesn't mind being the middleman. This way he or another mod will wait until both halves have arrived to send them to you and your trade partner. It's just to stop things like that from happening :P
My major issue is if I am trading something, most of the time it will be from my shop.
However, I am trying not to do that, if possible. That's why I'm buying all the packs. haha.
I may have to just buy a case... just deciding on what set I want.
Again I recommend RTR :D or GTC

Just a suggestion. If your doing a sealed you should use 6 packs. That is the normal/standard for a sealed tournament
Yeah I know. Just lazy.
I ended up buying 12 packs of Gatecrash and RtR. Pulled eh cards. A shock land and some mythics.
I posted them in my trade binder.

i use white/black in standard. A black devotion/white-black extort deck (same deck :P) the extort lets me keep my creatures back to build devotion while still damaging them and all my whites have some black cost to them

I would think he would thank you, I mean its still money in his pocket either way!
And then he would ask me why I didn't buy them straight from my wholesaler. I wouldn't know what to say. Haha
