Was wondering what other people's opinions are on the best way to store your collection. Had some of my old Masques block cards warp a little bit in the old 9 pocket binder. Ugh.
Boxes of cards
Boxes, lots of boxes
The box thing makes me so nervous... Especially since i'm gettig ready to move to a mote humid climate.
I keep all my rares/higher value/EDH fun stuff in my binder, which has a Boros prerelease sticker on it. All my cards in said binder are sorted by color, set, rarity, and alphabetically. In that order.
I also buy a new pair of combat boots every couple of years and recently made a nice sorting box out of the gigantic box they come in (which happened to be the perfect size for 4 rows of cards!) with more cardboard. So it's kinda like a giant version of a holiday gift box. Also, all the cards in that box are sorted by color, rarity, set, and alphabetically, but the only cards in there are commons and uncommons that aren't currently in standard.
I keep a second box (a normal 1-row box like your LGS might use) in the bottom of my FNM bag (military grade, I might add). It's sorted similarly to the massive shoebox, except it's all stuff from standard.
Before you ask, no I haven't been tested for OCD, but I believe fullheartedly that I have it. Lol.

I use the three rox boxes right now mostly. Trist me I know the ocd thing. All cards including extras of commons and uncommons are sorted by set and in card number order. And every month or two I set down and go thru everything to make sure my Xcel database is exactly correct. Haha
Excel data base? I need to do that.
Lol so I'm not the only one. xD
Although I don't like sorting by set number. Alphabetically is better in my opinion because you don't have to remember set numbers.

I don't sort out the core sets, but i have to sort by other sets, then store the block in it's own box. Really wanna upgrade to binders cause i'll be living in the California Bay area (well about an hour) and petrified of moisture damage.
I sort everything chronologically. Right now it looks like Theros, m14, DGM, GTC, rtr, m13, etc.

im about 2 hours from the Bay Area, and the moisture isn't to bad, and I'm up in the foothills. If you are in the valley like the Livermore area I think you will alright.

Same except I just never buy packs period lol.
If your worried about moisture pack it with newspaper that does well with absorbing moisture.

Except that's messier than anything and the ink could rub off on the cards and stuff, especially if it's damp. =\

I store my trade worth stuff in a binder. The rest is in a rtr gift box. What doesn't fit in there is just sitting on my floor. I have to be careful not to step on anything.
Does anyone want to buy bulk commons/uncommons/dollar rare/mythics?
I just had a shiver run down my back reading that.... I think i would have a panic attack if my cards touched the floor. Haha
Saw this on Tumblr. If the library I work at ever gets rid of their card catalog, I am asking for one.

Hell?? Haha
I buy gift boxes every season and sort like:
Color (biggest category)
Artifact/multicolored for that section
Rarity
Foils in front
And a few more things.
in boxes, will move to a binder at some point, but not yet. organized by deck, one per box. deck organized by color and rarity
I saw the catalogue on tumblr and about died. Noah and I NEED one of those for all the cards we have!
I store them in fat pack and deck builder boxes. I sort by colour. Before theros, when I started, one box held my blacks, blues, black dual cards, blue dual cards. and artifacts. Another held my greens, reds, whites and mixed colours of course I have too many for just that now :D so the theros cards are sorted amongst themselves in 2 theros boxes again by colour.
My lands I keep in a box for a cow mixer cup a have lol the special lands are at the back (guildgates, scry lands, any colour lands...)

That thing is awesome! Enough said :)
I totally need to put my welding skills to use and make one of those. It would be so heavy though... Ok, maybe wood is better. xD

aluminum! Light and you can weld it still :3
Aluminum welding is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a bitch. Oh my god. If it isn't JUST so, it will clump up and soon you have a giant blob of aluminum accumulating on the side of the metal... ._.
A trick my boss showed me is preheat the aluminum :) take a torch to it or use a hot plate or something to heat it up nicely before welding it :) tig it on AC I think and use pure tungsten electrodes with a dull tip
Oh and don't rush it! Aluminum doesn't weld as quickly as steel. You have to wait until you see the piece itself start to melt where you're electrocuting it (keep the rod close so it stays warm while you wait) then dip it :) a quick blast at full power to melt the rod in then ease off and finish the weld :3
Oh and make sure it's clean!!!!!!! Dirt will screw it up too!
Lol... I know all of this... But it doesn't make aluminum any easier to weld.
Oh :)
I would really like to see more fotos of the way you all store your cards.
For the Xcel list, I talked with piotr a lot about how to get my cards listed. I took a detour wich cost me some time, but now i´m quite happy with the outcome. I can search my cards in iMtg and build decks, I would like to share my hole list with others, but that seems to be an unsolved topic. If you want to know more I could start a new post
