Title: Extort/strionic resonator
Post by: Moocow4u2 on November 16, 2013, 11:50:35 AM
{thrull parasite} {strionic resonator}

Can I use the resonator when I cast a spell to allow for 2 extorts? Extort says in brackets "WHENEVER I cast a spell I may pay {B} or {W}...."
Would that be triggered? Activated? Both?

I would think so, spell triggers the extort and copy with resonator. but three mana for two life? A lil pricey isnt it?

Here's extort in the rules
702.100a (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=702.100a): Extort is a triggered ability. "Extort" means "Whenever you cast a spell, you may pay {W/B}. If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain life equal to the total life lost this way."

well yes but for situations where I have nothing better but lots of mana... What the hell! Lol and that extra damage is helpful in the long run ^_^

Oh and 4 mana for 2 life... But 2 damage, unless I'm in a 4 way. 4 mana for 6 life 2 damage each

4? One for extort, 2 for reaonator... And touchè on mutliple life gain. I don't play many multiplayer games so never think about each opponent effects :-/

Whenever I cast a spell I may pay 1 to steal life

So I'd be copying the "I may pay 1" to steal life

Sooo I would think for both extorts to work of have to pay for each one right? I know you said extort itself is a triggered ability but it seems the trigger activates the chance to use an activated ability once

That's a good point, i assumed that the 2 and tap would just assign the damage from the resonator. Well i found the extort rule, bring on Gorzo to clarify. Lol. The more i read the wording, the more i think u are correct with the 4 cost.

You pay for extort upon it's resolution not it's trigger. This means it would cost {2} to copy the trigger and when each trigger resolves you must pay a {W} or {B} to drain.

I concede, the more I read the more I was leaning this way.
