When {Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre} or any other card with similar ability, hits the graveyard, their ability technically hits the stack before they come out of the graveyard and i can answer it by placing {Surgical Extraction} on top of the stack over their ability removing that card from the game. Am i correct with this thought process?
You are correct. You can respond to his trigger, and exile Ulamog (along with any others, of course). It won't stop the graveyard shuffling from going off, since he does hit the graveyard, but it will definitely get rid of the Eldrazi.
