Title: U/W Heroic
Post by: Anoobass on November 13, 2013, 02:49:11 AM
Hey I'm making a U/W heroic deck and want to know if I should use {Dauntless Onslaught}, or {Agoraphobia}.  Obviously the onslaught helps vs the agoraphobia, but the later has infinite heroic triggers.  Any other ideas also welcome.

It boils down to how often do you feel like you'll be sinking five mana into getting a Heroic trigger in Standard? Is it worth 5 mana? Is there something else that you can do with 5 mana that will probably be more impactful on the game/board state?

My opinions are 90% of the time no; No; Definitely.

I see what you're saying but here's how I see it, if I sink 2 mana one turn on a {Phalanx Leader}, he's not really going to swing anyway for bonus counters on everyone.  Or I get 2 heroic triggers one time use, for an extra mana.

Also agoraphobia can be used against an opponent if need be.

There are better options for removal in both those colors for 3 mana or less. There are just all around better cards altogether... Also, it doesn't really hit much of the creatures that matter. {Aetherling}, {Loxodon Smiter}, {Stormbreath Dragon} and more all still hurt you with an Agoraphobia on them. Maybe it lets you manage them a little better, but it never deals with them.

Also, I'm not saying Dauntless is bad at all. But Agoraphobia is terribad.

Maybe an {Elite Arcanist} with {Dauntless Onslaught} exiled on it?

I understand the aetherling, how does it not stop a loxodon smiter though, -5/-0 on a 4/4 makes it a -1/4, and for the stormbreath even if it's monstrous, it still turns it into a 2/7.  Taking 2 damage per turn is far better than 7.

Elite arcanist would be a good idea but I just don't have enough room in the deck left, only 4 slots left and I'm looking for anything that would help heroic.

Spells so far:
{Hidden strings}
{ordeal of thassa}
{tritons tactics}
{aqueous form}
{bident of thassa}

I'd go with dauntless. If your heroic decks anything like mine games will rarely get to turn 6. If you could use dauntless on 2 phalanx leaders...that's +4/+4 for each and +2/+2 for whatever else you have out in one turn. Agoraphobia doesn't have that potential.

I've been building a U/w heroic deck myself with some very promising sample draw runs.  My spells are:

{Gridlock}
{Gods Willing}
{Triton Tactics}
{Aqueous Form}
{Hidden Strings}

I can't tell you how much I love Gridlock in this deck.
