So the union contract that i'm under doesn't end till 2016. But due to an important decision of where the company wants to build its latest product they opened up discussions for an extension till 2024 to guarantee the product gets built here instead of elsewhere. Now the provisions of the contract would change after 2016 and would mostly affect people hired after that date. After reading and rereading the proposal i cant find anything that says i should vote no. Fellow employees though are freaking out and saying they're just trying to screw every one over. I just want the product to be built here so as to increase the amount of jobs and keep my job more secure. I feel if the members turn down the proposal they will build elsewhere and screw us. Just venting my frustrating day.
This is why Unions need to be abolished! They were needed back in the day when companies screwed their employees but nowadays they are pointless. They take the hard earned money away from you (the worker) to pay some suit who doesn't give a rats ass about you he just wants his money.
End my rant of the day lol
The union isnt the issue here. They have kept our pension plan for us after the company tried getting rid of it. The issue is the self entilted members that wont vote yes because things will be different
True for this scenario it's not the issue. I just have a grudge for unions sorry.
Have you tries asking your coworkers why they hate it so much (other than the fact that things will change)?
What I have seen about contracts like this where the old members vs the new members. You being old member and new member being someone hired after xx/xx/xx date. Is the old members see nothing wrong until the next contract. After 2024 you will see them offer better deals to the new members not as good as the old members and cut more from the old members. This is a divide and conquer method. Then it will be new members fighting with old members.

The funny thing is that I have just over a year here. I'm actually siding with the old timers. But there still a good amount of newer guys that want it. Let's just say that if they choose to build their product elsewhere because the contract was turned down economy in this area would crumble. Sure it wouldn't be immediate but with 15-20 yrs this place would look like Detroit.
