Title: My sister wants to play magic
Post by: Mochalatte37 on October 30, 2013, 09:54:22 PM
My sister who is 14 (a year younger than me)
Wants to have a magic deck so she can play with me at FNM, but i dont know what deck to get her! I use a mix a green and black and i was thinking of getting her a custom green deck. But is that a good starter deck? Or should i get a different color?
My budget is 20$ if that matters

I've heard mono red is very cheap so she could get a very competitive deck for low cost. Otherwise the event deck might work well. But I'm not an expert on this stuff

I guess green is fairly simple then. But I wouldn't exactly call rdw complicated, you just need to learn the play style. Otherwise boros is fairly easy without shocks

You could try a deck builders toolkit, but this is just something to get started. After she has a hang of the game an has tried out a few colors, she could decide what she likes, and you could build a budget deck in that color

If you have a secondary one you could just lend it to her until she has her own.

{B}{W} exalted is relatively cheap, and easy to play, just play the things with exalted ad fast as you can and always swing with the biggest thing.

Mono green and mono red are by far the easiest to use.  I would probably say red is cheaper but green is easier to start with when understanding mechanics of the game.  Red works with instants so using them at the correct times and such is more the idea, whereas green is just RAAR, BIG CREATURE, RAAR!

thats a stereotype. There's a lot more subtlety to green than just that

Yes but we are talking about getting someone started, not telling them to -3 {garruk, caller of beasts} a {craterhoof behometh} and blood rush it with {Skarrg Goliath}.

Edit: wrong card.

You promote this deck way too much lol.

But seriously Red Deck Wins is great. It's a bunch of cheap creatures (lots of commons) it's mono coloured so only basic lands and burn spells are like 25¢ each if that

I have played several young children/younger siblings at FNM before, and they all seem to have red decks or red based decks. Sometimes they have gotten close to beating me, or simply beaten me alltogether. There's a reason they have these decks. Red is the best color for beginers hands down! This is based on two theories: Firstly, starting players don't like things to be complicated. Red isn't. Secondly, nobody likes to lose, and losing every game due to being new is no fun! Red decks tend to...win. ;)

Can get the event decks for under $20 online and some game stores. Might want to look into one of the last three. Theros (might not be out yet) m14 kinda fun or dragon maze( is a fun deck but a little hard to navigate to a beguiner). They come with all you need a deck box spin down and side board. I suggest you look into these.

seitch it out for two {legion loyalist}, bringing it up to 4. Same with the red devotion guy that can deal massive damage, add more of him

he'd go 5$ over his budget, but if he's willing to throw a little extra, the event decks are pre- made competitive decks. Although I'm not sure of the power of the current {G}{R} one

Try this:
Land:
x3 {blood crypt}
x3 {stomping grounds}
X2 {overgrown tomb}
X2 {dragonskull summit}
X2 {rootbound crag}
x2 {woodland cemetery}
Creatures:
X4 {Hellrider}
X4 {rakdos cackler}
X4 {dreg mangler}
X4 {strangleroot geist}
X4 {burning tree emmisary}
X4 {lightning mauler}
X4 {rakdos shred freak}
Spells:
X2 {Dreadbore}
X1 {Abrupt Decay}
X4 {Lightning Strike}

Around ~$10.A little costy on the lands,but if she really wants to win some matches,trust me.This deck was brutal.
