Another simple idea I had for a first strike/ deathtouch deck. Again, I would really appreciate some input because I'm not too sure about the playability of it. I'd like to win a game at FNM just once. Please help!
It's a neat idea, but it's a little risky, they may not be attacking, but some heavy hitting, late-game cards might help. {Runechante's Pike} with only 6 instants/ Sorceries is a bit risky as well.
I added the pike for its first strike, notsomuch for the power boost. I'm really just wanting to have fun with a typhoid rat destroying a Kessig-ramped Primeval Titan
I know, I know. But more spells would help this card that you have a playset of in your deck.
I might could add some {think twice}s or other draw cards but then I'd have to mess with the mana and I'm not smart enough to balance it out ahhah
Well it's not that you aren't smart enough, as it is it doesn't make sense to add another color when you have cards like {Glissa, the Traitor} which will stretch your manabase. And the BUG doesn't maximize your potential dual lands. Besides your going to want to flashback the {Think Twice} then it defeats the purpose of adding blue for {Runechanter's Pike}.
You're so very right. Can you think of anything that'll make this deck active it's goal? I've been doing sample draws, and sometimes can't get a good combo till turn five. That's no good against a lot of the FNM decks I've been playing. It's always swords or Kessig runs or goblins. So frustrating.
{Blades Pinions} for sure. It's almost too perfect for your deck lol. Swap that in instead of Pike. {Garruck Relentless} is a good card because when it gets online its madness afterwards, and your deck can pull it off because they wont be attacking and you may not be either. Deathtpuch wolves aren't a bad idea either. {Lure} is an awesome choice aswell. Clears their board pretty damn fast.
Because you're not running any humans {Viridian Claw} is a better choice than {sharpened Pitchfork}.
You're amazing. I only came into this game so I really only have a knowledge of Innistrad block cards. Thank you for these awesome reccomendations
******updated. Whaddya think?
Oh no problem, this community is great and everyone is willing to help each other. I was lucky enough to join magic just after M12 so I had somewhat of a grasp on the cards. Not New Phyrexia for whatever reason, my playgroup never bought cards from that expansion for whatever reason.

They probably didn't like Poison. :)
Anybody think green sun's zeniths might work? I'm on star city about to buy this deck.

I wouldn't do it. There isn't a whole lot of ramp opportunities in this deck and it's a bit of a pricey card.
Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking f ways to try and speed up my creatures. I often play decks with a playset of birds and llanowar elves

It looks really strong. A cool deck built around two mechanics that I love. Oh and by the way {Overrun} is an excellent choice because you only need to deal 1 damage to take the creature down, then the other 3+ hits the face.
Yeah I highly recomend looking for the trample deathtouch combo, with first strike they will try to never block as they won't even get a hit in.
If you or anyone can think of more instants or sorcery cards that add trample that would be great.
Possibly also look the other way at using creatures with trample and giving them death touch.
For example: {Garruk's companion} and {basilisk collar}
Edit: again not standard combo (sorry) lol
One simple common that goes great with death touch, {Prey Upon}.
Okay, I need help real quick. One- how to transform Garruk. Two- how to deal with hexproof
How do you transform him? Is that what youre asking?
Hexproof? You're going to have to either make them sac with cards like {Tribute to Hunger} or use a global effect like {Black Sun's Zenith}.
Yeah that's my question. Most people transform him with like, a shock or something similar. But most creatures he can deal 3 damage to would kill it before it could deal damage back right?
You will possibly want to use it to pick off a little cheapie that you know can't be boosted in p/t. Obviously a 1/1 is a good target.
It drops him to 2, then you transform :)
But if I have him attack a 1/1, won't his 3 damage kill the 1/1 before it can damage him?
I thought it worked the way Wally is saying, but the way you said it, makes sense too. I think after the ability resolves, then everything happens. We're just so used to pretty much everything being instantaneous like {Shock} for example.
His ability works like {prey upon} they both deal damage pretty much instantaneously

{Garruk Relentless}
I'm about to drop $100 fr this deck at star city. My question is- do you guys thin I should. Would it be worth it? I really just want something I can call my ow that will win a few games. I've already put in a lot of money in the past few months to no avail. Two booster boxes and a huge amount of playlets from eBay. Bottom line- worth it or no?
I think it's worth it mostly because no one will see it coming
If your going to be killing of your opponent's creatures why not put in a {Bone Horde} for late game? Use {Wild Hunger} to pump it and give it trample or you can even put {Lure} on another creature and then you don't even need {Wild Hunger} and woop-sha-doop, you got a game winning attack.
I like your direction, but I'm not sure what I'd remove to put those in and also to keep the deck balanced in acheiving it's desired effect. I've been running sample draws and i'm not sure. What do you suggest?
