Title: How does your battlefield look?
Post by: Steerpike on October 28, 2013, 08:44:35 PM
Just curious, but for instance are you like me and do something weird like flip a card 180* if it's been detained? Or are you OCD about what side of you your library is on? Things like that

I am way CDO when it comes to certain things. CDO is like OCD but all the letters are in alphabetical order. Like they should be.

Um let's see.
Library must be straight up on the right.
Creatures in front of lands, all straight.
Tapping 90 to the right.
Graveyard parallel to library to the right.
Exile 90 to the right above graveyard.

Deck to the left.
Graveyard directly above it.
Exile to the left of the deck.
I stack my lands in pairs, bit only if they are the same.
Creatures above the lands.
Planeswalkers and field enchantments to the top right.
Tapped creatures at 90 degrees

Deck on right hand side, tops of cards facing interior of mat
Graveyard on my side of the deck, set up so you can see their names, nothing else, in a stack.
Life counters/any other dice in on opponent's side of my deck
'field is how Reid Duke sets it up:

   Permanents
   Land
   Stack/Place to Resolve Spells

To tap 90 degrees to the right
To detain 90 degrees to the left

Deck on right side, straight up and down.
Graveyard below deck.
Exile is flipped in gy.
Spin down die above deck.
Lands on bottom of field. (Always!)
Creatures on top of field. (Always!)
90 degree tilt for tap (creature/land)
Exiled card under o ring, d sphere, etc.
Hand habitually being shuffled :P

Ha, these are all fun to read.

Oddly enough I don't have a preference as to which side my library is on. But it's "up-down" Graveyard is below it
Non-creature permanents are above it
Exiled cards are to the side of the library away from me
Tap is turned 90*
Detain is turned 180*
Creatures are above land, which I do not stack
And then I'll usually have a drink on the side opposite my library

Edit: now that i think about it, i have my drink in my right hand so library is usually to the left

Cards wherever. 😈

Now when I organize them after the game, that's when I get OCD.

Library on right.
Graveyard below library.
Exile right of library.
Artifacts and enchantments left of library.
Land in front of me, tapping 90 degrees to the right.
Creatures in front of land, also tapping the same way.
Planeswalkers left of creatures and land.

Front row creatures. Back row lands
Left side enchantments. Right side artifacts
Library upper right. Graveyard behind my library. Exiled cards turned face down under my graveyard (unless its something like the planes walker that lets you cast my stuff... Then it's just in a pile off to the side for him) my hand in my hand lol

I'm seeing so many people saying they play with there decks on the right, and it makes me feel weird about having mine on the left...

Oh! And equipment and auras are all stacked below the creature so the text of each one is shown right below the text of the card above it

Yeah, I do this too (except instead of right for the library I go to the left). I also stack lands and tokens by colour/name, so that you can see the name but no more. I keep my life counter on my right, in the middle of the table, and my commander under that if we're doing EDH.

Am I a bad person?

I played a guy at a tournament. I've never met him before but I just knew that he was OCD like he placed his lands neatly and straight etc. so to mess with him (and give me an edge) I'd tap one creature facing <--- and another facing ---> and I'd tap my lands in a disorganized manner and just do stuff like that. I eventually won the match in 3

I think that was too far. I know how it feels to be that guy because at my FNM I make sure everything is really organized and if it's not I go crazy and can't concentrate. It's really annoying. Just my onion, though.

I know I felt like a dick but I mostly did it bc we were both 1-3 and the game was meaningless

No, lol. You're fine. Just another layer of the meta as far as I'm concerned (if what you did actually had any bearing whatsoever)

I do it because I'm left-handed. Also, people need to put land in front goddammit!

Land in front should be illegal lol

Fair enough but the only room Magic has for old school is for older (better looking) lands! Lol

Never.  Under any circumstances.  Bring this topic up.  Everyone launches into a big debate about about how their way is the best and every one else's way is wrong.

Lol, goddammit you guys

Deck to the top right
GY to the right of deck
Exile off the playmat, right of GY
Life counter off playmat below exile
Lands closest to me, stack if they are the same up to 4, also stack for abilities such as {nykthos, shrine to nyx} and 2 lands.
PW to left of deck
Other permanents left of PW

Tap 90* to right
No move for summon sick
Detain upside down
Doesn't untap during next untap step 90* left
Positive enchants/artifacts/cipher under creature card with only name showing.
Negative enchantments ({pacify}) on top of creature with creature name showing.

Phew... That was a lot of explanation for something you just do naturally.

I have my library to the left.  Graveyard left of library. Beer left of GY.
