Title: Elbrus, the binding blade
Post by: CyberStrider on October 28, 2013, 04:08:14 AM
This might be a really easy one but it started a fight with friends.
I had a {kingpin's pet} and I equipped a {Elbrus, the binding blade} to it.  Ended my turn my friend then used {act of treason} on my card and then attacked me. The argument was this I say I get withengar unbound as I own the equipment. His argument was he gets it as he did the damage.

Please use curly brackets to link cards!

You get it. You control Elbrus, not your opponent. Just because they gained control of your creature, doesn't mean they control your equipment:

301.5d (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=301.5d): An Equipment's controller is separate from the equipped creature's controller; the two need not be the same. Changing control of the creature doesn't change control of the Equipment, and vice versa. Only the Equipment's controller can activate its abilities. However, if the Equipment grants an ability to the equipped creature (with "gains" or "has"), the equipped creature's controller is the only one who can activate that ability.

The card would not change controllers just because of who dealt the damage. A spell or effect would have to say otherwise.
