I went to a comic book store today that I know doesn't update their magic binder prices. I got there and bought:
1 {Daybreak Coronet} for $12 instead of $20
1 {Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx} for $8 instead of $15
3 {Nightveil Specter} for $1 each instead of $6 each
And a Dissention {Blood Crypt} for $9 instead of $13
The owner is really nice but I had to buy those right? Or should I have told him
It depends. Were all the other cards in the binder less too? If not is sounds like they're just being nice.
Dude, don't worry about it. There's a card shop in the capital city here that sells ALL Magic rares for $2 a pop, and if I grab enough they give me a discount and a free booster pack.

Just asked my lgs, they sell zendikar full arts for $1 each.

Debating whether a 20 hour $3,000 plane ride is worth it?

Don't think about it, JUST DO IT!
The owner of a card has a responsibility to know or at least obtain the price. In today's day and age with all the technology at our finger tips there is no more excuse to not know the value of your possessions. With that I never feel bad when someone under values their cards to my advantage. I also never deny them my ability to check TCG in an instant.
It's a very "don't ask, won't tell" kinda world. :P
I do the same. If someone asks me the value of a card, I'll tell them. If they've under-valued it and don't ask me what the value actually is, then I'm gonna buy it without a second thought.
I have a few card shops in the area. One of them, you literally look up the price on starcitygames.com and add them to the cart on a laptop on his counter and you pay exactly the same price. My favorite one is lazy and sells shocks for $8, uncommons and commons for like 10 cents (unless he actually looks it up, which is rare) and a lot of times undervalues rares. On the flip side, he overvalues a lot of rares/mythics and only pays you like a third of what your stuff is worth.

I wonder what wizards would set the price at instead of the secondary market....

Wouldn't make any difference, just like ftv:20 msrp $39.95 selling for at least $100

However, just think if wizards put outa decree that stores couldn't sell their products if they marked it up more than 10%...
I use SCG as a last resort to buy stuff from, simply because they are so overpriced

Really value is all speculation. That guy was happy to make his money at his store and hopefully for him you encourage business there.
Our LGS uses an iPad as thier POS purchase system, so they look up every card on the iPad and add up the price that way. I have told the shop in Noah's parent's town when they have cards like daybreak coronets and original æther vials just collecting dust in old binders. I feel like it is each individual shop owners responsibility to know or have a way to access they value of cards, it's just part of the business!
Most game shops have no problem jacking the price on sealed product...
Not to mention you are the consumer. You always should pay the lowest possible price when purchasing from a retailer, which you did. It's not like you stumbled across someone who had a priceless piece of art and then ripped them off.
