Title: Selesnya Hexproof Auras
Post by: Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth on October 11, 2013, 11:14:14 PM
Okay here is the deck. This is Reid Duke's Selesnya Hexproof Auras and it took 2nd at the 2013 World Championship for Modern. I want to make this as my first deck in Modern but I don't want to spend $400 on lands. I know that the lands are extremely important and will eventually try to get them but for now I just want to functionally finish it. The question is what lands do I run to make the deck as efficient as possible while spending a minimum amount of cash.

1  {Dryad Arbor}
1  {Forest}
4  {Horizon Canopy}
3  {Misty Rainforest}
4  {Razorverge Thicket}
4  {Temple Garden}
3  {Verdant Catacombs}
1  {Wooded Bastion}
21 lands

4  {Gladecover Scout}
4  {Kor Spiritdancer}
4  {Slippery Bogle}
12 creatures

4  {Daybreak Coronet}
4  {Ethereal Armor}
4  {Hyena Umbra}
4  {Keen Sense}
4  {Rancor}
4  {Spider Umbra}
3  {Unflinching Courage}
27 other spells

Sideboard
2  {Dismember}
1  {Grafdigger's Cage}
4  {Leyline of Sanctity}
2  {Path to Exile}
2  {Rest in Peace}
3  {Stony Silence}
1  {Suppression Field}

Right now I am thinking:
4x {Temple Garden}
4x {Sunpetal Grove}
4x {Razorverge Thickets}
4x {Wooded Bastion}

with the rest of the lands though I don't want to run basic lands but might have no choice.

Ive been playing this deck and its really fun and can end games Quickly or kinda flounder. You're not going to like what I have to say but it really needs  {Horizon Canopy} eventually. Mostly for the mid/late game when you draw he useless scouts/boggles, and have to fish for an aura.

Not necessary ATM since you're just building it. I wouldn't even bother with that many wooded bastions maybe 1-2 but  {Brushland} will work just fine :)

So:
4x {Temple Garden}
4x {Sunpetal Grove}
4x {Razorverge Thickets}
2x {Wooded Bastion}
4x {Brushland}
2x {Dryad Arbor} (bumping it to 2 because of the lack of fetches)
and one {Forest} or {Plains}

I will eventually get the {Horizon Canopy}s and all of the rest of the lands but right now I am just trying to make the minimum.

The main problem with boggle is the sac problem. If they force you to sac a creature your screwed this is why you need to have a fetch land with {Dryad Arbor} IMO. But that's going to cost you some $$$

I realize the purpose of all of lands, I have watched his deck tech and saw him play 3 rounds in the World Championship so I know how the deck works. I am going to get all the lands but for now I am just trying to get the thing together with duct tape.

I know it's unconventional and not really modern worthy but you can always run {Beckon Aparition} in you sb vs a deck that forces you to sac. That sweat I use in my standard deck. I know it's weird but it works and boy nobody sees it coming (I can understand why too lol)

Yeah, I use it in my Modern deck. It's also pretty fun against graveyard stuff because you exile the cards so their spell or ability doesn't resolve.

 {Fists of Ironwood} can get around Lilly too :)

So does {Selesnya Charm} and it pumps and it exiles big stuff; its SO undervalued. I figured out that the price to buy the deck (what I still need of it) now on SCG is $506.21. I am thinking I have about $150 for the deck right now, I can probably get $100 each for my birthday (April) and Christmas so I will just have to figure it out. If for right now I swap out 1 of the {Horizon Canopy}s for {Brushland}s and take out like 3 of the fetches in favor of {Sunpetal Grove} I could knock $149 off the total and I could probably swing it.
