Title: Calling a Judge
Post by: Mattao19 on October 08, 2013, 08:03:42 AM
Yes, it's every players right to be able a judge when they feel that a player broke the rules but, some people take it too far. I'm lucky to say that I've never faced an opponent who's a complete jerk and called a judge on multiple occasion but a couple seats down from me a dude was playing and his opponent called the judge 6 times in their 50 minute match of those 6 the guy calling for judge was correct once (no lie) like they were stupid judge calls like the guy would say I minus Ajani then right after say nvm I plus Ajani. Then the opponent (from Hell would yell JUDGE!!) like it got to the point where my opponent and I just laughed at the guy!
After my rant, do you guys have any good judge stories?

I was competing in an EDH tournament and of my four pods I was stuck with this guy who obviously just payed his way in. ( he was younger like preteen) anyway he would call a judge over every time he cast the mimeoplasm, because HE didn't know how it worked.

Lol with me it got to the point where we'd make fun of him like my opponent and I would just laugh and tell judge randomly (and not loudly just loud enough for us to hear)

I think the player was young and that's it.

Just can't let people know the judge button. Less likely to abuse it, usually magic just involves reading the text and understanding the cards and priority of turn.

It always bothers me when players dont know the rules and expectations of the level they are competing at. Worst among them is the experienced players that feel like they know enough to not continue educating themselves on the game.

A while back we had a judge call that really pissed off the person calling the judge. It was competiive REL and it was over lifelink. The person who called judge took a hit from a lifelinker and his opponent did not add is life and just continued his turn. The defending player noticed this lack of lifegain and thinking it was a trigger he purposely did not say anything till his turn when he called judge on his opponent missing a trigger. The judge issued a game loss to the player that called judge for cheating. He was actively trying to not maintain gamestate to his favor. I can agree with the call as much as it sucks, but still this shouldve been avoided by a so-called experienced player bothering to stay up to date on rules. As a side note I dont believe lifelink has been a trigger since it was created. Obviously there are lifelink esque effects that do trigger like {armadillo cloak}.

I myself have never called over a judge, but this one guy I played against in an EDH tourney called out heaps when I kept bouncing {Rune-Scarred Demon} with {Conjurer's Closet}. He didn't complain the first two times I did it, but every time after that he called the judge over, questioning the legality of the move, regardless how many times both myself and the judge explained it. Aggravated me so much...

Some people will do this as a strategy. If they feel they can't win bc their deck is better they will try to find ways to get under your skin. It sometimes make you lose focus and causes misplays. Don't let it bother you. Run your deck the way it's meant to be run and when your opponent gets mad chuckle to yourself and keep going. In the long run you'll most likely win bc they are losing focus.

He's right. It's not fun to play against.

The one time anyone ever called a judge on me it was for {Omnisience}, and I tried to cast {Enter the Infinite} then my whole library except the draw spells and he was sure (and wrong) that it was still my library and I had to pay the costs (~,~) why stoopud person????
