Lookin to make first mono colored EDH. Any personal fav's or particular strategies? I was thinkin {eight-and-a-half-tails} but open to about anything.
I like {Kemba, Kha Regent}. She's really good, makes your own protection, and can ultimately just get in for a ton of general damage.
Any of the Gods, considering they have that cool "Devotion" thing going for them :)
Otherwise, here are some of my favs:

BLACK: {Anowon, the Ruin Sage} Tribal Vampire/Sacrifice, {Mirri the Cursed} +1/+1 Counters, {Infernal Kirin} Hand Control/Tribal Spirit
BLUE: {Braids, Conjurer Adept} Artifacts/Mana Ramp, {Kira, Great Glass-Spinner} Control Counter Control, {Talrand, Sky Summoner} TOKENS OUT THE BUTT!
RED: {Krenko, Mob Boss} TOKENS/Aggro/Tribal Goblin, {Heartless Hidetsugu} Kill All The Life
GREEN: {Yeva, Nature's Herald} & {Eladamri, Lord of Leaves} Unlockable/Hexproof/Flashing Tribal Elves!, {Sosuke, Son of Seshiro} Mmmm, Snake Tribal <3
Some potentially awesome mono commanders: {Omnath, Locus of Mana}, {Isamaru, Hound of Konda}, {Norin the Wary}, and I'm currently using {Thassa, God of the Sea}. :)

I think {Krenko, Mob Boss} could be good to get ALL the tokens, or maybe {Nefarox, overlord of Grixis} could be a powerhouse.

{sheodred, whispering one} makes a GREAT mono black reanimator type commander.
All of the new Theros gods allow for interesting commander play as well.
I'll confirm {Krenko, Mob Boss} and {Kemba, Kha Regent} as effective generals. My friends *hate* my Kemba deck.
Be careful when choosing a mono colored general not to choose one that will draw too much hate...ie {Krenko Mob Boss} or {Sheoldred}<-- though her high CMC may save you from some hate.
Just make sure you have an answer for the most dreaded card against mono colored decks...

Triggered abilities begin with "whenever", "when" or "at". Since Iona has none of these words, it is not affected by {Torpor Orb}.
{Norin the Wary} makes for fun giggle worthy commandering. As does either of the Maros (eg {Molimo, Maro-Sorcerer}. {Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni} is sneakyfun, as is {Arcanis the Omnipotent}. {Akroma, Angel of Wrath}, {Darien, King of Kjeldor} and {Jareth, Leonine Titan} are jerks that you want to throw out the window when playing against.
