Title: An artifact deck
Post by: Destore117 on October 06, 2013, 07:35:58 PM
So I've wanted to make a decent artifact deck for awhile now and have been wondering
Should I try and keep it colorless? Or splash colors in? If colorless what lands should I get aside from Darksteel Citadel (can i have more than just 4 DCs in a deck? and same goes for colored artifact decks
What colors would you recommend?
I am thinking {U}{R} and maybe {B}
What are some staples you've seen in these kind of decks
And what should I really watch out for?
Any and all recommendations/and criticism's are appreciated.

Splash green for {beck} and make it an affinity deck that plays the whole deck on turn two, lol

If you want it to stay colorless the tron lands are always good. {Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas} can be pretty powerful in an artifact deck if you splash {B}{U}.

Right now it's made out of spare cards and it's a {U}{R}{W}{B} (I don't have any forest cards otherwise it would be all 5 colors) but when I get the money and time I am probably going to make it {U}{G}{B} but I really want it to be as colorless as possible. Problem is that all the artifact lands are banned :/ and they are one of the staples to this deck. Adding to affinity as well as adding to my number of artifacts and giving me mana ;-; R.I.P. {Vault of Whispers} {Great Furnace}

Is it designed for a particular format or for casual play? Cause you can use whatever you want for casual if you're play group is cool with it.

When I get the money for it I'm going to make it Modern legal. But right now it's just a casual pastime

Nice, well here's a forum post with a primer for affinity decks if you're interested. Keep in mind it might be a bit out of date.

That's perfectly fine if its "slightly dated"
Thank you both for all of your help.
However this seems a bit pricey :/

Modern can be pretty expensive to get into (I'm in the process of doing it myself) but stuff doesn't rotate, so it ends up saving money if you play for long enough. Affinity is a bit cheaper than other types though cause you don't need fetchlands.

Hmmm... Artifact deck.  You need 4 {disciple of the vault}s and a really good sac outlet...
So...make an Eggs deck?

This deck idea is easily 250$ just saying •-•
Buying one of each of the cards they have listed is 110$ on its own. So...440$ if you wanted 4 of each card.

But you can easily trade $100 or more, if you work on here and with people you know. My commander deck that I put together costs $450 but between trading ($150) and what I had ($100) I was able to put it together for $200. In addition, as Lyriczulu said, you can use the cards forever.

Considering some standard decks cost $200+ and some modern decks cost $1000+ it's not that bad, but I hear ya, it's a pretty tough pill to swallow.

True enough. But seeing as how I don't have a way to make money. And no cards anyone would be interested in. :/ I'd have to buy most of if not all of these cards. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Which is why Magic promotes a better society...One of the only reasons I have a job in high school is to support my MTG deckbuilding. Oh, and if you wait until your birthday or Christmas you might be able to get a good chunk of it.

I had a decent artifact deck idea in my precious folder earlier and it was only 30$ most expensive piece being the Darksteel Citadel.

You can definitely make it work on a budget but it just won't be as effective/consistent.

I'm not expecting to win any world tournaments or nothing. Just maybe have something that can win against all my friends and maybe net me a few FNM's

Here is a chart I found on Facebook that I think applies really well to this situation:

A myr deck I made a while ago packed {Tempered Steel}

{Tempered Steel} is modern legal but it is an older affinity archetype that's not as popular.

Btw modern cards are all cards printed from 8th edition onwards minus those on the ban list.
