Title: X-factor (U/G)
Post by: Flashley_ska on October 05, 2013, 04:35:43 PM

X-factor (U/G)

60 cards, 0 sideboard

12 {Island}
12 {Forest}

24 lands

2 {Vorel of the Hull Clade}
4 {Mistcutter Hydra}
2 {Prophet of Kruphix}
2 {Kalonian Hydra}
2 {Nimbus Swimmer}
3 {Elvish Mystic}
3 {Fathom Mage}

18 creatures

4 {Syncopate}
4 {Burst of Strength}
4 {Ordeal of Nylea}
4 {Slime Molding}
2 {Biomass Mutation}

18 other spells

Sideboard

Notes:
Takin advantage of the fact that an X cost is usually still good to draw in early, mid, or late game, and little combos that ramp at ridiculous speed in the right order. Dual lands WILL be added, as I get them... Thoughts?

If you're playing a ton of x spells, you don't wanna miss a land drop. You should try 25 lands. Also, try {Curse of the Swine} at least as a sideboard card. It helps vs. your W/G matchup where they utilize their mana more efficiently than you do in the early game.

Thanks, I also wondered about a standard mana dork or gamy be. Couple of gyre sages?
Will try and figure what to drop for more land though. Also thronging of swapping a pair of evolutions for another pair of ordeal of nylea, or maybe 3 of each?

I think 24 land is enought but yes mana dorks are needed. I'd go with  {Elvish Mystic} over gyre sage. Also maybe {Mana Bloom} to keep with your X theme. I personally like  {Burnished Hart} two lands yes please.

I also think if you are going to run curse of the swine you strongly consider  {Cyclonic Rift}.

I love the rift and had thought about it for sideboard, but I don't favour the curse for this deck.
Whilst i really appreciate the suggestion along the theme, I personally really don't like the mana bloom, on account of the one per turn rule, you pay one over the odds to bank your mana at slow release, whic doesn't suit most green decks I've ever seen, including some it was in.
Im going to rework it a little tonight, add the dorks and switch a bit of stuff around. The other card that I'm swapping in pronto is at least a couple of {biomass mutation}.

{Plasm capture} maybe.

Mana Bloom is just nuts with the Theros prophet. You can ultilize bloom mana once per turn, even on an opponent's turn

Sounds strange, but {Ooze Flux} is actually very good

Especially in this deck. With {Fathom Mage} you can keep drawing cards, and with {Prophet of Kruphix} you can make surprise blockers

Thanks for all the comments guys, I've dropped the urban evos, though I will side them, along with the cyclonic rifts. I've still got too many "2 of"s, but too many cards I don't want to do without.
Can you help me choose from the above?

Best mana dork at the moment is possibly  {Sylvan Caryatid}

How often do your ordeals pay off? I might drop one to add another kalonian hydra. Maybe two for your play set. Not sure.

Well they usually pop the first time the enchanted creature attacks, as most already have two counters on them anyway, so I saw them in this deck as cheap mid game mana ramp, I actually pumped these on account of losing urban evolution.
I'd LOVE to have a playset if the other hydra but they're just too expensive!
As for the theros dork it has one big downside as a dork: CMC 2.

{Bioshift} to maybe save counters or throw them on gyre sage for super mana.
