Title: First FNM
Post by: Destore117 on October 04, 2013, 07:16:57 PM
So me and my friends are hoping to start attending FNM's every few weeks.
Just wondering like.
What is the general setup?
What kind of decks are allowed?
And well. What exactly do you...well do? At an FNM? All I know is you can play Magic and win cards. But I'm mainly going to get better at the game as well as learn how my deck stands against real players.

I'd recommend carrying a Modern and a Standard deck every time just in case. And at my FNM they do four rounds if best 2 of 3.

Every lgs is different, mine does drafts almost exclusively but some only do standard constructed. Ask ahead and I'm sure they'll let you know.

Unfortunately modern FNM is pretty uncommon since it's less popular than standard/draft. If you're interested in playing modern though, many shops have a designated day of the week for it.

Just found a Modern day at Esther's sports cards and collectibles (if anyone goes there) Oct. 18
So I bring my deck
And...like what happens?
Do I sign in somewhere and like go against particular people? Or do I just sit down at a table and wait and then like me and whoever play?

At my FNM it goes modern, standard, modern, limited, repeat, and modern is by far the most popular.

You sign in with your DCI number (if you don't have one you'll get one there), if there are prizes it might cost money to enter as well. Most stores use a Swiss-round system which is like round-robin but you don't play everyone and prizes (if any) are awarded to the top X people (the organizer decides on distribution)

Idk what round robin is :| also around how much does it cost to enter if it does cost money? (I'm sure this depends on the event) but a general number would be nice

Round robin is where you play every other person there which would be really long for more than like 4 people cause it's best of 3. Most constructed events (aka you bring your own deck) in my experience cost $5-10 depending on the prizes.

All good advice. My advice. Google the store number. Call and get it straight from them. It never hurts to know what your going into.
