Post by: iChaser on October 02, 2013, 08:40:46 PM
Hello all,

May I seek any of your advice on sideboarding cards for red deck win on the current standard meta games vs all?

Thanks

First things first: Are you running {Fanatic of Mogis}? Because that card as a finisher is just plain dirty!

Yes, I do run x4. I have no idea why my RDW always lost! :(

My pre-rotation deck was using {Ash Zealot}s in the main board. She's pretty amazing. Slap some {Madcap Skills} on her and watch her go.

I'm not 100% sure on this, since it can't target players, but {Mizzium Mortars} might be great to blast a creature away and keep your agro guys flowing. {Lightning Strike}, {Magma Jet}, and {Shock} are always useful, too. And, of course, a {Chandra, Pyromaster} or two never hurts (to have on your side ;))

Use  {Burning Earth} and  {Skullcrack}. B.E. punishes anyone using non basics (shock lands, guild gates, scrylands) and is one of your best weapons against esper control. Skullcrack is nice against turbo fog, lifegain decks, and is another lightning bolt to the face.

I'm playing a Mono-Red Pyromancer deck at the moment.  It's not exactly RDW, but it sides in much the same way.  ..at least I think it does.   I don't have too much experience piloting RDW.  But my current sideboard is this:
4x Skullcrack; Do deal with pesky lifegain cards
4x Burning Earth; Do deal with greedy mana bases
4x Peak Eruption; Stone Rain + Bolt in the Mirror or against Red-based Control is incredibly powerful and hasn't let me down
3x [insert card to deal with projected metagame]

If you don't know what your opponents will be playing for a tournament, just pick something that feels right or helps your deck in a bad match-up.  Or you can do what I do and pick something silly that could potentially be amazing, but really isn't.  My last three slots at the moment are Fire-Alarm Fires.  Because why not?
