Title: quitting smoking
Post by: Almosteric on October 02, 2013, 11:50:35 AM
It's been 5 days, not one drag.
Anyone else quit, quitting, wants to quit, or have any tips?
Tell your story, ask for support, and share your success.

Chewing gum helps.

No tips but I'm super proud, whenever I see any of my friends doing it I tell them, "stop smoking, it's bad for you!"  Most of them have gotten the picture and are down to maybe one or 2 a day.  Good luck man :))

Any tips on how to get unnadicted from that?

I'm glad your quitting. What also helps with quit smoking is water vapor. They have favors with little to no nicotine that you can use to lean your self off if you ever get the need to smoke.

I thought about vapor cigs, but I don't want any Nicotine or smoking at all (even vapor)!
So far when I have a craving I just go outdoors like I normally would and breath deeply. Five min or so and I'm alright. I have noticed my mood hasn't changed, but I do feel unlike myself I guess. Is that just my brain reworking itself from the drug?

Give it time. Every time you try to quit, you get better at it. I know plenty of people that can smoke 2 packs a week on vacation and kick immediately when they get home. I know even more social smokers.

Oh yeah, you're undergoing a long process that will take years to complete, but look at all the benefits:

Yeah man, even after just 5 days I feel good about it.  Ive been staying away from people who smoke and situations that I would normally smoke, like being at the bar.
the hardest part has been finding something to do when you normally would smoke, replacing the habit with something else... or nothing at all...   its weird.

I smoked for 2 years, the worst choice I've ever made. And one day, I just decided to stop. I separated myself from all of my smoking friends, started running again (I used to be fabulous at long distance/cross-country running), and got a puppy to keep my occupied. It was tough for the first few weeks, but then a month passes.....then three months.....now it's been almost 2 years since I quit :) and I feel amazing!

^^  humor is a good way to remain light about the subject but the fact of the matter is nicotine is a real drug that people are very much addicted to.  Thanks to those who are providing real advice / congrats / criticism!

My bad. I'm in the same boat. Been smoking for 5 years and having a hard time quitting. I've quit like 6 times...

I smoked more pot and that stopped me smoking cigs instantly

And I'm not as depressed! (Since so many people say they are depressed on these forums)

Oh man, if I didn't feel like that would lead me to smoking cigs then yes an option!
Dude I'm stoked to be a non-smoker.

Water vapors are way better than e cigs. They don't have the methonal so it's also adjustable by favors.

Support and encouragement from all your circles of friends makes changes a lot easier. We're counting on you! Lol

I wonder if practicing some kind of dexterity skill would help distract your hands. Like that coin rolling thing people do between their fingers.
