Title: Monstrosity + illusionists bracers
Post by: Anoobass on September 27, 2013, 07:33:37 PM
As the title states, would illusionists bracers work with monstrosity.  Obviously it's an activated ability but I don't know because it would then become monstrous and not be able to become again.

{Illusionist's Bracers}
{Shipbreaker Kraken}

the bracers say activated. So it's not monstrous when the ability activated, so it should work. Second opinion?

My reasoning is, it's still on the stack. Besides, the "if it's not monstrous" part should give us a hint about how it can be used

I would say no as it says "if not" means it is a status check  so here's how it would go if for counters. but you can copy the "when becomes monstrous" trigger for double effect

Exe stack
Check for monsterous
Ability for monsterous triggers
Bracer copy trigger
Bracer resolve
Second monsterous ability hits stack
Check for monsterous
Resolves
Kraken ability hits and gets copied
then resolves copy
Then first kraken ability will resolve
First trigger checks for monsterous
Fails check as already monsterous
Drops off stack
End stack

Same would be true of {strionic resonator}

I thought it checked for monstrous afterward

This is how I thought it would work but I would like a mod to confirm.

Nevermind. It checks for monster it's before the counters

Upon resolution, it will check if the creature is monstrous and fizzle.

I don't think that this works: "Kraken ability hits and gets copied"!! It copies monstrous but not the trigger when it gets monstrous since it's not an activated ability. So you tap 4 and not 8 creatures!

You could use the resonator to copy the monstrous effect triggering, but the bracers will fail to work properly on the activated ability.

With all of this being said, I could see a creature not being able to go monsterous twice, but the ability says you may choose new targets, could you in fact monsterous a second creature off the effect?

I dot think so only because monstrosity states "if this creature isn't monstrous..." So I don't believe you could target another creature.

Monstrous doesn't target. ;)
