Title: Theros box mapping
Post by: Legends784 on September 23, 2013, 07:08:33 PM
I understand probably very few of us, of Any were able to get our hands on a full box of Theros yet, but I was wondering if anyone had been planning to work on or knows a site/app that will map Theros boxes once they officially come out. And if so about how long it would take to get up an running

Doesnt work. Box mapping was abolished awhile back. Wizards started a triple randomization process. Cards are packed randomized, packs are boxed randomized, and stores are supposed to randomize when they open the box.

Wait, what?

What is box mapping?
A technique in which you enter the serial code of a box and it tells you the rare in each pack.

Essentially, Box Mapping was discovering the order of what rares and or foils were in your box by opening a few. So you could pick and choose your good packs, then sell back packs you knew had nothing in them for full price to get what you needed cheap.

I know Gatecrash had a double randomization every 10 boxes, though I didn't know it's now triple randomization every single box. Did this start with M14?

I know, I found out about it around Gatecrash when they started mixing the boxes up and now you can't do it at all.

Still speechless,I a dumbfounded that there was even a way to do this.

How could wizards have allowed that to go on?
Its been stopped now and only lasted from like Innistrad to Dragon's Maze.

I have no idea when it started, although I bet it was sometime around Innistrad. Just a guess.

And I bet Wizards for a few years were like "Please, you can't actually calculate it". Then people did it and they mixed Gatecrash up to scare people away from box mapping, but then people pushed through and now they are like "Oh hell no". Basically.

I don't believe they would ever randomize it. It all goes by how they cut the sheet and which card is in which pack. If it were random you could get a booster with 20 mythics, and a booster with none.

This guy does Innistrad (pretty recently), but I still have my doubts. In either event, I'd never buy a booster from an online store. Someone more then likely mapped it, took all the gravy and sold you junk.

Also worked in Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited (iirc).
I got some good cards out of it at the time.

Apparently it was still going on as of Dragon's Maze. http://www.mythicmtg.com/blog/2013/04/going-mad-box-mapping-what-you-need-to-know/

Edit: and a M14 Box Mapper has been released.

Re-edit: false alarm. It is actually just a data miner in hopes of mapping boxes. The reports of Box Mapping's demise may indeed be true.

You wouldn't have to map Alpha, Beta, Revised or Unlimited. They're in clear plastic wrappers, you can a see through them.

As for the starter sets, there are some stories about them, but there is such little amounts of product out there - it's difficult to know.

I just watched a video of someone completely boxmap a box. I hate myself for not buying like 3 boxes of RTR and using this.

The boxes were, but the packs weren't. And the good cards were always in the same places in the box. That's what I was referring to.

I don't know when I'll get my case of theros but i have no intention of selling back packs if yall want to try testing things with it. See if wizards has resolved it.

I'm gonna try to map mine, then open the "good" ones first.
