Title: Sliver Sideboard
Post by: Mattao19 on September 18, 2013, 12:25:23 AM
As a sideboard for a sliver deck what do you guys recommend? I just built my deck and well it's pretty average. And I'm wondering what other people found worked/didn't

There are unfortunately no basic sideboard guidelines. If Patrick Chapin can't set the formula straight then it probably doesnt exist.

That being said, you can make very good guessed based on your meta. So lets hear it, what exactly do you need to beat. Whats hard to play against, what's easy, and what's most common?

Like Kaleo says, sideboards are mostly about the meta. If there are certain decks that give you a hard time, or are just super common in your lgs/playgroup, be prepared for them!

Another thing to consider is to figure out where your deck is weakest/most vulnerable, and where you are able to excel the strongest. Take my Rakdos Agro/Control hybrid deck for example. The control aspect focuses heavy on removal, and I know hexproof totally ruins my day. So my sideboard packs {Glaring Spotlight}s, a response to that fatal flaw (with an addition agro boost when needed). On the agro side, troublesome blockers might become an issue, so I have {Rix Maadi Guildmage} in the sideboard to deal with blocker-heavy decks. And if my opponent has no blockers, {Cryptborn Horror}s start to come in.

Slivers tend to be aggressive, so keep in mind for your sideboard what you can do to win if your opponent is packing a bunch of {supreme verdict}s to wipe you out.

I run a Naya based slivers deck but I'm going to just add a couple my  {Steam Vents} for  {Galerider Sliver}. My big weakness isn't boardwipe bc I play 4x  {Legion's Initiative} 4x  {Boros Charm} and 4x  {Ranger's Guile} also this is a casual deck just to play vs. my play group and the occasional FNM.

My biggest weakness is lifegain and stupid {Archangel of Thune}!! So I might just put in a couple of  {Pacifism}s in my SB.

Sounds weird but I was also thinking about adding some quick counter magic like  {Dispel}s bc most removal is Instant speed and I have other options for vs complete boardwipe and a dispel would be completely unexpected so they'd be very shocked to see it. Like a Dispel to counter the sphinx or like a doomblade might help.

Pacifism is a good choice. {Skullcrack} is another good sideboard card against life gain.
