Well I have a big collection, and this one guy was making a big deal that I should not have this many cards.
Well, when you open about 4-5 at Friday and normally somehow get insane pulls(just pulled a voice) your able to build jund midrange, azorius control, and rdw. And I barely even buy cards. Anyway I think that was totaly uncalled for.
Was he a magic player, or not?
I'm assuming not. If so, then it makes sense. To a lot of people, all they see are pieces of cardboard with pictures on them. They don't see the fun of strategic play or the lore of what the cards represent. They just see expensive cardboard. It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes. I know I've certainly been asked "Aren't you too old for card games?" more times than I'd like.
If he was a magic player, then he's probably just jealous ;)
Either way, don't let it bother you too much. Take pride in your hobby and your collection!
I spend a lot of money on Magic and people at my lcs know my feel, we all have tons of cards haha
This is always a fun conundrum. Having lots of cards makes people judge you for spending so much and envy you for having so much. However they couldnt get access to have the cards they meed through trades if it weren't for people like us and are often inspired to play better and win more so they can have a collection like that.
I have a friend who makes fun of me for playing Magic and constantly tells me this isn't the 90's. He plays in a 1950's style rockabilly band and fails to see the irony in his comments.
No the guy plays magic he was saying I don't understand how you afford your cards I used to get .25$ a day, I told him that I get most of cards from winning and trading like at the magic celebration I pulled 2 {scavenging ooze}s, but was more happy I taught 2 new people how to play magic the gathering;)

I got what you meant. I was relating a similar anecdote ;)
People tell me I have a lot of cards and then I tell them I have been playing the game off and on for over 11 years. :)
My dad basically gave up on me because he thinks I'm a nerd because I LOVE Dr Who andMagic, and have a lot of cards. 😞
I thinks it pretty funny to see the look on their faces when I tell them I can pay off my car payments if I ever decide to sell all my stuff...
I don't drink alcohol anymore so when people tell me I spend too much on cards I can tell them I don't spend as much on cards as they do on a single night out they can't remember.
