just wanted to inform you sfgiantsfan is most likely thatonejoey / metalmadman he was acting suspicious about a big trade I wanted to do with him so we started texting about it my iPhone tells me he lives in Fresno so I went ahead and searched back through the thatonejoey incidents (also metalmadman) and noticed he is also located in Fresno so the guy gave me a call because I was taking my time considering the trade and said hey this is Joey from imtg and blah blah blah anyways figured you should all know before he pulls the .poo. he did last year
But things got suspicious when I suggested we use a mod to trade using delivery confirmation and even offered to pay the additional expense of using delivery confirmation to the mod and pay for the delivery confirmation from the mod and he didnt want to so I offered to drive to him so we could do the trade in person and he refused that too just got irritated and wanted to do it through mail. He then started accusing me of being untrustworthy so I again offered to meet him, refused. He then referenced a message he ""just got" warning him about me so when I asked to see the message he referenced he said he couldn't screenshot it to me so I asked him to repost it and he said he couldn't so that either. Now idk who here knows much about phones but no phone is old that that it can't screenshot or copy and paste and have the ability to surf the web through this app AND even if it were that old it would not be able to run the current software this app is running off of
It's my obligation to look out for the community that this guy isn't being straight with his trades and something is not right so be careful trading with him if you're willing to risk it. Additionally if anyone would like proof I have our conversation in texts on my phone available for people to look through showing how sketchy he was being.

I think he was trying to scam over several people in a short amount of time before getting caught... Hence y if someone isn't trusted don't play any games, make them send to you first

I'm sure this has been handled, but I'll post just so we have a public "Moderator response" to this statement. Please do not post the address here. Posting someone else's address is potential violation of iMtG law, and nobody wants that!
And since there was some confusion about who is a mod, keep in mind there are a couple ways to find out:
1) Under Announcements, there is a "Gathering Council" topic which has all of us Mods listed.
2) Click on the user's profile; if they have the title "Hand" they are a local mod, and if they have the title "Elder" they are a global mod.
Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon. I'm still wondering though, is anybody still wanting to start a trial over this?

He doesn't have to be here for it to start. I'm going to post some links on his profiles. It would be nice to have a link to a trial, in addition to this one. A trial link would be an easy way for people to read up on all the accusations if they don't feel like reading through this 5 page topic to get all the info. If he doesn't show up for his trial, so be it.
I'm not saying a trial has to start, but it would be a nice way to organize everything.
The trial section is a great way for new traders to figure out who is not only untrustworthy but also why. I agree with Keyeto here, he most likely will not post but it'll spread more awareness on the situation.

Problem with your ideal is that you watching isn't preventing him from stealing cards... there is a guy in this post that just sent cards to the dude so what does he care if you're watching because you're really not doing anything about it... he makes a new account every so often to jack a few cards and then goes sleeper until he does it again... this guy has scammed multiple people and your "watching" isn't doing a damn thing proactive to stop it

And what do you suggest? Making rude remarks to moderators? If you have a better idea, I'm all ears. Banning isn't going to stop him, but maybe having a Mod team that's aware of what's going on will help deter thieves. No, we can't eliminate the problem completely, but we're doing our best.

Everyone here knows that they are entering into a trade at their own risk. Mods can't be expected to DO anything about it other then watch and try to point out a thief when they see it. A few people have been scammed yes but please tell me, in what way could a mod have prevented it? Accusing someone they aren't fully sure is a thief? No, that would violate imtg law. They are doing the best they can with what they've got, if you don't like it feel free to not trade though the mail. One more thing, what do you possibly hope to gain by .excrement. talking our mods whom I think are doing an excellent job?

If you IP ban him, he will find a new IP and we lose him. He will make a new account on a different IP (from a local library, for example) were he can scam more people and we won't know that it is him. On the other hand if we just watch his IP we can track him and notify people he is trying to set up trades with who is really is.

You see, here's the part you're missing. He's changing his IP. You want me to IP ban him? He's gonna come back for the fifth time, with his fifth IP. Banning is a bad way to get rid of thieves. Hell, it gives them an amazing reason to come back with a new IP and a new username. Moreso, it forces them to hide, and be more careful about their ways of stealing.
The point is, we've banned people, and they've just come back. After making it very clear that we know who they are, users don't tend to go about "business as usual". Once they know we can find them, they generally stop.
But hey, I can play ball. Maybe I will ban him, and take your idea. But when he comes back with a new user ID and a new IP address that we don't see, and steals from people, its not on me, its on your great "proactive" ways. Sound fair?
you're absolutely right and I do my due diligence before I trade with anyone... but people have lost cards to this guy and still no address is posted... the actual name of this guy isn't posted... everything about this guy (with exception to his IP) is completely unknown and in the mods possession... I don't feel that I was "excrement talking" the mods I'm fired up about the situation... these cards are expensive it's not like you can just go out and replace everything you had for change nor are the mods doing anything to remedy this... they aren't replacing the cards and still this guy continues to make accounts and you don't want to IP ban him??? ok then like I said... let him keep making accounts and scamming people... IP banning is the ONLY real solution... and if he's using an idevice to do it I'm sure there are steps that can be taken to obtain his serial number (just like the lost idevice app) and potentially turn him in for theft...
I only trade with people that have had recent trades go well with current users, if not then I ask for them to send first.. It's not hard to not get scammed. Also, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I added warnings to his posts. Trusted trader topic is just for positive trades. I've pm'ed the members on his list to see if they can confirm or not that they have traded with SF

As we've explained time and time again. We. Do. Not. Allow. People. To. Post. Other. People's. Addresses. Even thieves. However, as you can clearly read in the stickied topic above, I have a list of known scammer's addresses and my inbox is always open. If you can't handle that...don't trade...no one is forcing you. I do not think an ip ban would accomplish anything as he's come back multiple times with a new IP address, which has been stated earlier. I do agree that his mailing address should be made known so we know where to not send cards. His name could be left off, but if he's shady enough he could have people mail to his friends house.

Can you add the aliases to the untrustworthy thread? That's the first place I look usually
I'll admit, there isn't a whole lot we can do. The hard work is up to you! You can't make trades willy-nilly an then cry to us mods about it. You need to do a background check, so to speak. See if they're on the trusted/untrustworthy traders threads. If they aren't on either one, ask them to send first or ask around. There are several people (myself included) who have spent loads of money on stamps to do trades here. They may have an idea about a particular trader's trustworthiness. This whole thing is at your own risk. It isn't our job to protect your cards and go hunt down someone of they steal from you. However, we can be used as an insurance policy through the middleman service.
Like Mike said, there are tools at your disposal. Use them. Not trying to be an ass, but this is something most long-time members have seen happen again and again. There are several ways to prevent theft. If you choose not to use them, then you take that extra risk.

I do agree that his mailing address should be made known so we know where to not send cards. His name could be left off, but if he's shady enough he could have people mail to his friends house.
i'll just state that i agree fullheartedly with the mods on this one, just a question. doesn't us here talking about it allow him insight on what move to take next, i mean he knows were not ip banning him, so therefore he will probrably move names anyway. and now he knows his adress is accessible. he's apparently clever so it seems he continues to prey on our community. it makes me sick to think of how much $ he's claimed off of people.
