Made a budget deck for my daughter...she loves counter spells but wants to win by attacking...all thoughts are appreciated on how to improve this with cheap cards
No offense, but it looks like a draft deck :/
None taken...Trying to keep it standard post rotation
Budget deck? I'd look into 'mono' black decks. Festering Newts, bubbling cauldrons, killspells, etc. Using sac outlets can help new players get a feel for the rules and intricities of Magic. Block, before damage sac, and so on. You can spice things up by splashing white for orzhov charm and other BW cards
Desecration demons are only $2.50 each yet provide enormous amounts of wiggle room. They're just an enormous help.
She wants it dimir colors...i could build her a deck for days golgari as that's where I'm most knowledgable but she loves those counter spells
Blue-black control is still doable. You guys considered cards like {syncopate}, {warped physique}, {cyclonic rift}?
I have two {Syncopate}s in there...don't know why I didn't think of {warped physique}...and thought bout {cyclonic rift} but doing this from my collection as the nearest shop from me is quite a drive and she's wanting it tomorrow (which is why no {desecration demon}s...only have three and using them in my deck)
It's kinda difficult to make a Blue-Black deck with the post rotation restriction. Counters, creature aggro and kill spells are a lot to wedge into a UB deck.
True...think I had a few to many creatures...changed it around a bit
Looks like too much counter. If you're just holding up counters, you're not winning. You need something to use mana on if your opponent doesn't play a spell.
Maybe {stab wound}? {gift of orzhov}? {contaminated ground} not used to control...help me out here lol
Both are good cards-- in draft. I think a blue-black post rotation deck needs to be part mill. I'm working on it but its so discouraging :/
Made a few changes
Launch party is a horrid card in standard.
Thought It'd work we'll with {mortus strider}...bad assumption?
Yea. Striders pretty bad too unless you have some combo. You might as well play doom blade or ultimate price over launch party
Hardest deck brew challenge ever. I wish I could help, but I keep getting stumped
All good...appreciate the help...think ima replace the {launch party}s with {warped physique} and call it a day...it'll be good enough for her to learn on
{Basilica screechers}
{hands of binding}
{way of the thief}
I played a soft control/aggro/mill dimir deck for prerelease and stompped out all of the hyper aggro Boros/Gruul decks. I basically ran all cheap evasive creatures (unblockable/flying). Add tons of removal/cipher cards like {hands of binding} and {paranoid delusions}+{psychic strike}. Control the board long enough to drop {consuming aberration} and win.
Dimirs always been interesting. I use to run U/B tezzeret control back in the mirridon days, I feel what this deck needs is more card draw. {Underworld Connections} and {Staff of Nin} are great ones. Also {Ætherling} is an amazing control card.
I know it isn't that budget, but it will get higher very soon. {AEtherling} is the best control finisher EVER! Standard anyway. :)
Honestly it wasn't suppose to be to competitive as I built this one and another for her boyfriend to be played against each other so they can learn...and I'm not a fan of auras or cipher unless its on hexproof creatures
Def agree it could use more card draw but like I said above...was really meant to be played against one deck only and tried to make them balanced
{Death's Approach} isn't bad with a little mill like you have
Appreciate everyone's help...would also appreciate checking out my other deck that is actually mine...it's on here simply named "thune"
