Actually you can populate using trostoni, so you wouldn't need the blue. But this way is once a turn and you gain a creature. Opposed to multiple times a turn with no boost in creatures and a lack to attack

If you used {Trostani, Selesnyas Voice} the would also be gigantic creatures too...
If you want a mono color life gain combo and your Using black do exquisite blood and sanguine bond and deal 1 damage and win the game
