Title: Esper Control Question
Post by: SpiritedAway on March 10, 2012, 06:18:38 AM
What in the heck am I supposed to, while playing with Esper Control, against a deck with removal spells, like UB zombies?

What seems to happen is that I control just fine until I get an {Elesh Norn} and then it gets {Doom Blade}d. I'll {Unburial Rites} her, than it gets {Tragic Slip}ed or whatever.

What am I supposed to do? The problem is that because Im not playing any real targets for those removl cards in their deck, they just build up in their hand by default.

Do {Spellskite} or {Surgical Extraction} do the job?

They can and will. Make sure you have room
For a negate or dissipate. That helps.

Those can make your opponent get rid of those pesky cards. But if they have other options to discard then they will want to go with those first. You can run {despise} and pick the card for them. {geth's verdict} is good too.

Not tryin to say I have super powers, but ive been able to notice when players have these removal spells. When they have two or so cards in their hand, open mana for a whole turn and they play nothing when I'm tapped out. Things like that.

And I'm talking about Standard Tournament play, so these aren't chump decks that aren't made well. Then I'll play my bomb and it's killed multiple times. It just seems that in really close to playing esper control and there are just a few things that are off.

Well any good player will leave mana open to at least fake a doom blade mana leak. Like I said wait and leave room for a mana leak or two yourself if it's that crucial you get that card down. Be patient.
