Title: League of Legends vs. Dota 2
Post by: Monrodesign on August 19, 2013, 08:26:10 PM
I've never played Dota 2 but I've looked up some videos and watched the gameplay for it. Looks like a darker version of LoL, looks a tad bit more complex as I don't know the characters but fun none the less. Ya'll thoughts on the two?

Having played both for a significant amount of time each I'd say I prefer Dota 2 to LoL. I'm not sure that there's any one major thing that I like better but several smaller things that make Dota more enjoyable to me. Things like not having to unlock heroes and much more flexible (imo) laning and team compositions.

From what I've been watching about Dota the jungle looks way way better, more maneuverable, & interactive. I know most of the LoL team comps, just learning the Dota's characters would be the learning curve for me but very interested in trying it out.

Give it a shot, it's free to play after all!

Will do, are some of the characters similarities close to LoL?

Example maybe?

I played LoL for a bit after playing Dota 2, and put it down, never to touch again.  I love Dota 2, and the wide variety of characters.  Please note they are all FREE!   Like Tiny, he is a rock character that I just dominated with awhile ago.  His purpose is to completely destroy your towers and ancients in a small amount of time.  His abilities help him achieve this goal,  AND some items heavily help his goal.  When you upgrade his ulti, he has insane amount of damage to give, but he attacks rather slow.  So there is an item that speeds up his attacks super fast.  He also needs more building damage.  So there is an item that gives him cleave damage (deals damage to the attacked AND deals a % of that damage to those behind him.  The percent was quite generous). And gives him 75% bonus damage specifically towards buildings.  And it helps with his other abilities as well.  Tiny had 397 damage on his own by the time I got to the barracks surrounding the ancient.  And I took out the entire section and the ancient almost Single HANDEDLY.  That doesn't usually happen...

I'm geeking out right now, and for some the learning curve is steep.  But if your into the game (like me) it doesn't seem steep at all.  It wasn't for me.

Is Tiny the one with the hook?
And how many characters are there?
Do the have something similar to Rune Pages & Masteries like in LoL?

No, nothing outside of the match affects what goes on in the match in Dota, so everyone starts on exactly the same footing.

There are currently 102 heroes with a further 10 to be added eventually. (IE there are 112 characters in Warcraft 3 Dota and valve just haven't implemented all of them yet)
