Title: Deathtouch and trample
Post by: Deadman on August 18, 2013, 05:15:18 PM
If I am attacking with something that has trample and the blocker assigned to it has deathtouch but can't block all assigned damage does the trample damage go through before deathtouch takes effect or does the attacker die?

Both. The attacker dies and the trample damage goes through...

Deathtouch only has to do 1 damage too.  The rest tramples.

What happens when you combine death touch and trample?

The "lethal damage" when death touch is in the equasion becomes 1. This means that a 5/3 double strike, trample, deathtouch blocked by a 0/4 and a 5/7 will deal 8 damage to the defending player.

First strike assigns 1 point to each blocker and 3 to the defending player
regular damage deals 5 to the defending player

Yup. Thats what makes the naya auras deck work. Bloodrush and {boros charm} a {wasteland viper} with {rancor} and the damage gets very out of hand.
