Is the new Goofy {Tarmogoyf} about to eat a voice in the card art? Or am I seeing things?
is the set up for a magic meme ending in...
THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE HIGHLANDER!
Nah, just eating a hole through my wallet ðŸ˜
Lol it is eating a stag but not a spectral stag like what {Voice of Resurgence} is.
Isn't voice an elemental, not a spirit? Lol
Would someone like to explain why {Tarmygoyf} is so good?

Most of the time it will be a 3/4 at the very least, with potential to be even bigger. I would actually say in formats like Modern and Legacy, ~60% of the time it is a 4/5.

Cuz it can just wreck. It has the potential to be like a turn 3, 2 drop that is like a 3/4 or 4/5. It is super good. And if u give him some sort of evasion on him, he is just retarded.
But $139? There are other cards that could be turn 2 and bigger like {Boneyard Wurm} and even a 3/4 or a 4/5 isn't too hard to deal with.
I know it doesn't sound all that impressive on paper, I certainly thought it was overhyped. But then I played with it and it makes sense now. It's hard to deal with and if you don't it's game over.
It honestly loons to me {Consuming Abberation} is better. It'll probably be a LOT bigger, and will constantly grow because of it's 2nd ability.

.....................no. Aberration costs 5 mana. That's three more than goyf. Someone drops a goyf while you go for aberration, you'll lose every time.
Well, goyf attacks T3. Then T4. Then, T5, you'll have Abberation out, and it should by that time be able to kill Goyf. Like this:
T1: Tome Scour (5)
T2: Glimpse the Unthinkable {15 in)
T3: Mind Funeral (Probavky a good 35 in at least so far).
T4: Mind Funeral 2, then Tome Scour again. They've Probavky got a good 50 in? Might be a game.
T5: Abberation, which will KILL Goyf. And Goyf probably hasn't done lethal damage yet, it'll probably be like a 6/7. Not lethal damage. You can then produce to kill them easily.
I am not saying Goyf is bad, I'm saying it's overrated. Certainly mythic worthy. I just think Abberation is better. Also, the above fame, your opponent might have already died. 😉
That's assuming goyf is alone. Your opponent will probably be playing bant or (more likely) naya/Jund. Then goyf has a whole entourage of things to help him. And milling is very good FOR goyf. Mill a bunch by T3? Cool, goyf is probably a 5/6, swing for 10, {Path to Exile} the aberration, swing for 5 more, {Lightning Bolt} x2 ftw.
I just don't really see aberration as that much of a powerhouse. Too slow.
You're right, but in my above scenario wouldn't you probably mill win right there?
All depends on {Mind Funeral}, really. Hit a pocket of lands and you're only milling 10-15 with their combined casting
Yeah, that always stinks.

Or against him, you might understand even faster (if his controller is doing it right).
With a fetchland and a {Thoughtseize} to get a third card type in the yard, he can be a 3/4 when you cast him on-curve.
Pity your opponent if you get something like a {Bitterblossom} or {Arcbound Ravager} with that Thoughtseize, because then he'll be a 4/5. On turn two.
Tarmagotf is evil

Well then your combo opponent will kill you on turn four and you will be sad that you are playing a crappy five drop :)
There is not a better 2 drop creature in magic than {tarmagoyf} except maybe {snapcaster mage} and there are a lot more snaps that have been printed than goyf. Goyf is not a $150 card by any means, however there are only a few available and there is no better alternative. Paying more than 2 for you beater leaves you tapped out when it is most important.
How do you STOP goyf. Other than sideboard a {reminisce}?
Kill it early or {Rest in Peace} would work
Easy, {go for the throat}, {victim of night}, {terminate} etc
Any options in red/blue?
Just counter him if not burn him before he's too big. If he gets too big {Fireball}

Pretty much. Graveyard hate weakens him, and it's important to note that goyf has no actual protections outside of an increasing toughness. He dies to {Terminate} and {Doom Blade} and gets exiled by {Path to Exile} as easily as a {Llanowar elf} would.
Exactly he's just unreal bc he's a 2 drop that gets bigger and bigger and bigger
{Tarmagoyf} is goof in almost any deck that uses green. Dropping it on turn 2 and having it be 2/3 or 3/4 puts your opponent on an early clock and forces them to play around it in some cases:
Well, I guess if its a 2/3 there is always {lightning bolt}

Well, I guess if its a 2/3 there is always {lightning bolt}
Usually it survives a lightning bolt if it's a 2/3. ;)
Lightning bolt resolves. Tarmy gets 3 damage marked on it, and and lightning bolt goes to the graveyard. By the time state base is checked to 'die' from lethal damage, his toughness will have already become 4 due to a new card type in the graveyard (an instant - the lightning bolt). Goyf is now a 3/4 with 3 damage on it.

Unless there is already an instant in the graveyard that is pumping him up....but you have a good point.
Exactly, and a personal favorite of mine for blue, a quick {unsummon} or {repulse} + {counterspell} or {dissipate}.
