Title: Getting back into magic
Post by: Sargonkiadi on September 14, 2011, 06:06:20 PM
Last set I played in was Avatar. I don't know what block that is, you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge.

A buddy bought something Phyryxia and it has infest, which I find to be a very powerful and fun addition to the game.

Currently have a black deck that focuses on control of the other players hand, via discards and killing creatures, but I have trouble against decks with fast outputs. (i.e. Low creature costs of the sort)

My question is, are there new cards that can help prevent the overgrowth of small green decks? I usually need at least three good turns to do anything. By then I'm at 15 hp.

Thanks for reading,
Sargonkiadi

Black is very powerful right now with innistrad coming out, there is a planeswalker named illiana that sounds like it would fit perfectly, your always gonna have problems though against fast green creature based decks if you can't draw enough of your cheap removal early. Try adding dismember to your deck

There's a number of ways to handle a spawn deck IMO. Depending on style of play limiting use of cards, try some of these methods. I name a few cards, but I'm sure there's more than I mention below.
@There's a few cards that will do damage or destroy all creatures. See: Cleansing Beam, Lava Storm, Day of Judgement.
@There's also ways to put -x/-x counters on all in play, usually until end of turn. See: Contagion Engine, Holy Light, Shrivel, Stench of Decay.
@A skill called: Annihilate X, is a great way to make the opponent sacrifice them. Find it on many Eldrazi.

When I have a theme I'm searching, I filter the text box with specific bits, like "-1/-1" and sort through the list that comes up.
Good luck finding a method that works for you!

A fun and Irritating way to battle green is by making a white deck with Elsh Norn. If you arnt familiar with her, she gives your opponents creatures -2/-2 and your creatures +2/+2. You can build this idea in many ways, it's evil. :)

For Black, I personally find Black Sun's Zenith the most effective to rid many small creatures. 2 black and X, and all creatures get X -1/-1 counters.
