I just got my friend into magic, and he decides to buy a deckbuilder's toolkit. In the four packs he pulls {Overgrown tomb} {Watery grave} {Archangel of thune} and a {Sublime Arch angel}. I then buy a booster pack of DGM. {Scion of Vitu-Ghazi}. He then buys a pack of DGM. {Ruric thar, the unbowed} and a foil {Ral Zarek}! So angry!
Is he willing to trade that thune? ;)
I feel you. I got a RtR pack for my noob friend and I. I got {palisade Giant}. He pulls Trostani and FOIL {Steam Vents}. I was ready to punch him.
Some people have luck, I don't sadly :( but I usually do pretty well in trades. I guess thats the trade-off, heh.
He didnt see the value in the shocks. I tried explaining, and not be a bad friend. Even after my explanation, he still wanted to trade them both for my {Firemane avenger}. Explained to him how bad of a deal was in his part, he said he also wanted {Ajani's chosen}. Warned him again. He insisted.

I know ;P
Idk what's up with my luck, I pull weird foil uncommons and I'm just like: "really? Oh we'll, at least it's shiny." My most expensive card is worth like six dollars. ._.

Well, shock lands are pretty bad... They deal 2 damage to you and like... Life is rly important in magic.

Not sure if trolling or doesn't understand how to play the game....
Ugh dont get me started on shocklands, since rtr's release iva had friends go on about how much guildgates are better than shocklands, and how they would rather be a turn late then 2 life less, it really gets under my skin sometimes

Hahaha! You made me lol
I recently got my father back into Magic after an 8 year hiatus and he buys 2 packs gets a foil {Galerider Sliver} and a {Fiendslayer Paladin}. Not amazing but tripled his money!

As someone who runs 12 fetchlands and nearly all the shocks in one modern deck... I don't mind taking 3 damage to cast my deathrite on turn 1 ;)
But generally I feel new players overvalue their life.

with gates vs shocks the differences are very situational, most of my friends don't play goblins or aggro or anything too fast, so I usually just use ma guildgates.
The funniest part about gates vs shocks is that u don't have to pay the 2 life then the shock comes out like a gate only difference is its not a gate but who plays that gate ability mechanic anyway.
My friend has pulled 4 foil mythics ({master biomancer}, {borborygmos enraged}, {Olivia volderen}, and {akroma's memorial}). I have yet to pull one. The sad part is, I have probably opened double the amount of packs he has. Wish me luck on my theros box...

It happens man, a friend I know bought 1 pack of worldwake pulled JtMS, said she traded it to her friend for 3 decks, and that's how she started magic. I personally believe her cause she doesn't have a lot of money, but in any case. Still always mad at her for pulling a $100 card...
I remember being that noob friend. Innistrad was my first block and I pulled Garruk and Liliana in a pack and in a draft. I tried recreating the magic for other sets, never got nearly as lucky.
I managed to pull a {Archangel of Thune} in my first pack. Didn't even realize its value until a friend told me about it.

Look up the prices of all cards you are not sure of before you sell or trade. I have had to stop multiple friends from selling 40-50 dollar cards for a few packs.
