Title: Elite arcanist and split cards
Post by: Paraluke on August 07, 2013, 09:55:36 AM
If I cast my  {Elite Arcanist} and exiles a split card, say  {Turn // Burn}, what happens?

Can I choose one part of the spell to cast? How much do I pay to activate?

I believe you can copy either or both, depending on what mana you spend.

Since its has the fuse ability, you can cast either and the mana cost is the cost of whichever side you're casting.

Now if you could cast both with the arcanist's ability at the same time, I do not know.

From the m14 FAQ:

If the exiled card is a split card, then x is the sum of the converted mana costs of each half. However, when you cast the copy, you choose only one half to cast. You may cast a different half each time you create and cast a copy.

In other words, if you want to cast  {Turn // Burn}, you pay 5 and choose one half to cast. Fuse mechanic only works when casting from your hand, no other zone.

Oh, that's odd how that works. I was just thinking of cool combos to use the split cards on cause I thought you would only need to cast one spell and just pay that cards cost.

Ya it came up a little while ago when someone used a  {Snapcaster Mage} on a fuse card. We were wondering until someone actually read the reminder text on the card lol. Sometimes reading all the words is good
