Can someone explain to me what exactly this ability does?

Basically, if blockers are declared against it, you may have it give the defending player 3 poison counters regardless (or a different number, whatever the power is.). However, the opponents creatures would still deal damage to your creature. Does that help?

Well, you could slap a {Lure} on him and basically ALL of your attackers will hit to the face.
