Now I know how useful this card can be in protecting combos, but I've been struggling to find a practical application for it. So I figured why not ask the forum for some input!

Oh wow I like that. I never noticed that it was not a "you may" card!
It's a counter. For 0 mana. That's the practical application.
It's great for when you are comboing off or are going to win in that turn. If you happen to not win that turn, you just pay 5 mana for a counter spell that you could use at an opportune time. Look at {Force of Will}. It's super expensive. You can use it whenever for no mana. It's great!

I just noticed, {force of will} is an uncommon. Wtf? I thought it was rare.
Lol off-topic, but it took me forever to realize that the Darksteel {Æther Vial} is uncommon, not rare.

Anyone know how much it was when it was standard?
$30, you can google any card with "price history" after it and see some graphs.

Yeah! When it first came out and I saw that it was uncommon, I was like "how is this NOT rare?" As for force of will, obviously it's an awesome card but its situationally better than pact of negation in my opinion. If you're on the draw, being able to counter a nasty 1 drop with no land is awesome.

Throw in an {Isochron Scepter} and troll away!
Throw in all the pacts, put some forests and green creatures worth retrieving, find a way to get out the angel. Then win the game through a ridiculous circumstance
If {Force of Will} were a rare it would have been put on the reserve list. It would be at least 10-20x the already crazy price it is now.

See, the problem with the platinum angel, at least in my opinion is if you are able to ramp up {7}, you should've won by this point. Or at least have a combo established to enable you to win.

Tron says differently.
I never said anything about ramp. I only mentioned green because one of the pacts mentions green, so logically, it should be the color that's used
Well I mean you don't necessarily need to ramp, but still, thatd be turn 7.
