Title: Planeswalker
Post by: DEMON6613$ on August 01, 2013, 06:56:12 PM
Is it possible to burn a planeswalker? Or does the spell have to specifically say planeswalker?

The way it works is you target the player who controls the planeswalker and then redirect the damage, yes

So flame slash or lava axe would work?

"sources can deal damage to planeswalkers. If a spell or ability you control would deal damage to an opponent, you may have it deal that damage to a planeswalker that opponent controls instead. So while you can't target a planeswalker with a Shock, you can have a Shock that targets your opponent deal 2 damage to one of his or her planeswalkers instead of to the player. You can't split the damage from one source between a player and a planeswalker. Damage dealt to a planeswalker results in that many loyalty counters being removed from it."

This is from an article on Wizards (link:http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article.aspx?x=magic/rules/planeswalkers)

Yes
{Flame Slash}  {Lava Axe}
{Flame Slash} would not work, as it targets a player (CREATURE! Sorry, I meant creature) Although any source of damage that can target an opponent can hit a Player can be redirected to a Planeswalker. However! It must be damage, not life loss.

For example, you can {Rakdos' Return} a player, and redirect the damage to a Planeswalker they control. Due to the wording of the card, they actually would have to discard still. 😁 It's pretty nasty.

Thanks, didn't look at the link for {Flame Slash} just figured it was targeted players because I said in my original post that you target the player.

So, planeswalkers count as players? Meaning you can't return them to your hand from the graveyard with spells for creatures?

Planeswalkers are their own permanent type. A spell that returns a creature can't return a planeswalker. Also, direct damage to an opponent can be redirected to a planeswalker that opponent controls.
