Yes it is a mana ability that does not require tapping.

Not quite. Some regeneration abilities are tap abilities, but the ability of regeneration does not require the regerated creature be untapped.

However, it becomes tapped as part of regenerating...

Which is a moot point if it is already tapped...lol

Didn't know that...I looked but couldn't find any examples, could post some, I have never heard of it.
