Title: imposing sovereign
Post by: DirtyMustachio on July 26, 2013, 01:37:43 PM
well please move if there's a better place for the topic but, I was at one of my many lgs stores the other day and had an irritating conversation. I'm sure you all know the generic flunkies who just follow the crowd and copy and paste net decks, i mean there's a time and a place for research and piggybacking, but rotation's about to come and who knows really what will happen when theros comes out.

ANNNYway getting to the point, i mentioned I wanted to play bant aura or bant hexproof after rotation.... "no no no you can't do that there won't be bant hexproof after rotation..."
i mean i get it, it's a deck type, that's cute. i can still do bant, and i can still do bant with hexproof or auras after rotation thanks though. I just don't feel like going after geist's and innistrad $ cards one month before rotation.

no I kept a level head and was like nah I'll still do auras and hexproof but i want to do more like an imposing sovereign/ blind obedience bounce deck in bant, with auras like dention speheres and such so i can still use ethereal armor. and I just really like imposing sovereign...

"nah dude imposing sovereign is soo bad it dies to like everything... its so bad. you can't do that."

i was like thanks... -walks out-

anyway what does the imtg community think of sovereign, am i thinking lofty or do you think I can be shifty and hit people in the face while bouncing creatures while they have to come back in tapped?

What are you going to use to bounce? I do feel like {Blind Obedience} is better than {Imposing Sovereign}, but I don't think its as bad as they think it is.

I feel that {Imposing Sovereign} is more of a Naya blitz card rather than a bant card. If you think about it, bantchantments/bant hexproof doesn't really care about removal, where Naya blitz does. In my opinion the Sovereign wastes one of your opponents removal spells, so it won't hit something more important, while at the same time having an immediate effect that your opponents have to deal with. It also gets in for 2, which can be nice for early game pressure.

Final verdict
{Blind Obedience} for bant because its an enchantment and doesn't waste a hexproof creature spot

{Imposing Sovereign} for Naya because it must be removed, allowing for more important creatures to have safety.

But this is my opinion, I'll gladly accept others arguments. It's how we learn.

Oh I was just thinking of using both so I could definitely keep.that ability flowing. I was going to use {azorious charm} 's {simic charm} 's and {detention sphere} 's and maybe {cyclonic rift} and the {fiend hunter} from m14 was also considering straping some of those instants on an {elite arcanist} since simic charm can give everything hexproof

I just haven't committed a build until I see theros.

I've literally bought a playset of any potential u/g/w commons/uncommons I might use so i can buy anything I want from theros

I'm playing white weenie, and {Imposing Sovereign} is one of the last cards I need!  And {Gladecover Scout} is pretty good, no?  Slap some enchantments on him.... Er..... her.  And {Fencing Ace} has decimated me on several occasions. Rancor is such a (insert profanity). Granted, that's rotating. But T2 Ace with a T3 {Unflinching Courage} or {Gift of Orzhova} seems pretty damn good. Still bant, no?  And we've still got {Giant Growth}/{Titanic Growth}.  Now I'm rambling!

I'd say bant hexproof seems pretty damn good still. The loss of GoST is pretty devastating, but definitely doesn't kill the deck.  Oh, right, I like {Imposing Sovereign} :P. good for slowing and potentially chumping.  Or enchanting lol

Enchant it with something that gives it hexproof. And I think theros might introduce some new archetypes that might make this more or less viable

I made a Bant enchantment control deck that worked okay. Though I ended up taking out the green because I realized the main point of having the green was to mana ramp so I could support the third color. I am thinking about putting black in an maybe taking blue out when the new set comes out and making it a curse type deck with {Blind Obedience}, {Stab Wound} and {A Thousand Lashings}. {Blightcaster} will be good too.
