Title: Turn to frog and pump spells
Post by: Poof on March 05, 2012, 11:39:23 PM
If somebody has a pumped up creature and I use turn to frog will it be a 1/1 plus it's pump I always get different answeres for this

The creature itself will be a 1/1 and any equipment will alter it just like they would if it were a 2/2 or 37/28.

I am not sure whether you can activate abilities In response to making it a 1/1 before the equipment takes effect. My guess would be that you can, because it is a different creature so the equipment has to kind of re-equip itself.

It will be a 1/1 with pumps. It's a stack thing. U {turn to frog} in response to a pump if they don't respond to it {turn to frog} resolves then there pump spell will resolve.

I'm asking what would it be if the pump spell already resolved before using turn to frog

If after the spell resolved, then it should be a 1/1.

9/22/2011   Turn to Frog overwrites all previous effects that set the targeted creature's power and toughness to specific values. Other effects that set its power or toughness to specific values that start to apply after Turn to Frog resolves will overwrite this effect.

1/22/2011   Effects that modify the targeted creature's power or toughness, such as the effects of Titanic Growth or Glorious Anthem, will apply to it no matter when they started to take effect. The same is true for counters that change the creature's power or toughness (such as +1/+1 counters) and effects that switch its power and toughness.

Those two rulings seem to contradict.  It overwrites all previous effects but titanic growth still pumps it I don't get it?  Is it because it says till end of turn

The effect {turn to frog} has on a creature only applies to the static P/T...or what the P/T is printed on the card.  Other effects like {titanic growth}, auras, counters, or equipment supplement the static P/T and are still applied to the 1/1 frog.

Let's say you have a 2/2 {Runeclaw Bear}. Now you play {Titanic Growth} giving it +4/+4 until end of turn, making it a 6/6.  Then you enchant it with {Gigantaform}. This overwrites the 2/2 printed P/T and the +4/+4 still applies, makin it 12/12.
{Turn to Frog} cast on the bear would overwrite the static 8/8 the Gigantaform provides, making the bear a 1/1 frog, with +4/+4 or 5/5.

{gigantaform} would be an exception since it changes the static P/T.  Another aura like {boar umbra} does not change the static P/T and would still give the 1/1 frog +3/3 making it a 4/4......regardless if {turn to frog} was cast on the creature before or after the aura was attached to it.

Exactly!  The difference is that one ({Turn to Frog}) is setting the P/T to a specific value.  The other ({Titanic Growth}, or pump spell) modifies the P/T for the rest of the turn.
