I got a tournament coming up (see topic title for format) and I'm not sure what my partner and I should bring. Our meta is fairly mixed for singles, but leaning in favor toward aggro slightly.
Rules: my partner and I can not exceed 4 copies of a card between both of our decks. For example, I can have 1 {Pillar of Flame} and he can have 3 but we both can't have three.
We were thinking of bringing a control deck and a midrange deck with bombs in the mid.
What would you bring to a tournament like this?
A while back I played this format. The crazy part was it was not standard it was whatever. Some guys had legacy decks, some had some other insane stuff, we had two standard decks and we won the day.
My friend played a mono blue control deck, with {ludevic's abomination} as a win out of nowhere kind of thing. While I ran a zombie mill deck. Was really solid. I think I even took out the black and just made it mono blue too.
No one had any chance to play anything when my mate had a deck full of counter spells, and I ruled the board presence with my zombies that milled all their answers.
I have no idea how it would go against the current standard meta tho.
A lgs by me has started playing 2hg weekly. Came in 2nd with me playing a guttersnipe deck and buddy playing extort. Both decks effect each opponent so it's double damage. We lost to a team with one playing a super friends deck and a red/black aggro. The following week I couldn't play and 2 of my buddies from play group switched to snipe/extort and won. Think the guy with super friends deck wasn't there.
Are there enough mill cards in standard to be successful? I love my casual 2 headed games. Ill mill one person for the win.
My strategy was to use {Undead Alchemist} and an army of zombies, while my teammate stopped anything they tried to do.
Mind you we also had access to {Jace's Erasure} and {Blue Sun's Zenith}

With {Traumatize} back in the mix, it's possible. If you can copy it somehow, it'd be pretty easy enough to finish a deck off after with a few {Tome Scour}s, or a {Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker} or {Balustrade Spy} effect.
Yeah with reprints of {Tome Scour} and {Traumatize}, mill could be better. We have {Mind Sculpt} and {Breaking // Entering} (breaking), and {Snapcaster Mage}. Just watch out for {Psychic Spiral}!
