My LGS is starting this thing called Friday Unjudged Magic. Basically from noon when they open until six when FNM starts, they'll do a loose tournament with a $0.50 cash ($1 with a debit/credit card) entry fee. The winner gets to play FNM for free that night, and at the beginning of each quarter, they'll have a card pool prize for first place. Boo on being an adult and having a job that I have to be at when they start this 😡. Theyre doing it to get newer players into competing. No time limits and you have six hours to finish all of your matches. Anyone else's shop do this or something similar?
That... Sounds... Amazing...
My nearest lgs doesn't even have an FNM.
Mineis a non competitive. No judge, but the Man in front knows what to do. Very casual. I like it.

I wish mine was like that. I would go up there more. I don't like competing much, and no one hangs around there for casual games. I wish I could do this FUM just because paying $1 to lose is better than paying $8 to lose

Yeah, the rare tourney ones are never very fun...
My lgs does have an "FNM", but it's not sanctioned, there's no actual tournament, and the entry fee is $5. When you pay for your entry they give you a pack under $4, so it's about a $1 fee.
