Step #1 play {platinum angel}
Step #2 play {abyssal persecutor}
Step #3 Enjoy a laugh :)
Then spit your drink out when your opponent plays {dark ritual} , {ashes to ashes}...
Artifact...damn...lol
Then I play {wrath of god}
Apparently there is a way to actually stall a game completely, my buddy was telling me about it. He saw it in an online game video, 'twas a nihil spellbomb I believe that was enchanted by an oblivion ring, which was oblivion ringed and that oblivion ring was again oblivion ringed I think. The nihil spellbomb was destroyed or sacrificed somehow and it caused an infinite loop between the oblivion rings this stalling the game and causing an automatic restart. This can apparently happen in real tournament play as well, but I'm not sure if it resolves in a tie or a restart.
Yep, 3 {Oblivion Ring}s with no other valid targets on the battlefield ends in a tie, as the loop is unstoppable.

I don't get it
The oblivion rings keep coming in and out of play, endlessly searching for a legal target, nothing resolves so the game cannot proceed. I think in a non-online match that the players might have the option to ignore the effect and continue the game depending on the judge's ruling, but I'm not sure
Nope. It's an autodraw unless the game type has a higher life total clause or something.
To clarify, stuff does actually resolve with the o-ring conundrum, but that's kind of the problem. Here's the detailed breakdown:
- Oblivion Ring A enters the battlefield. Say it targets nothing (because there are no targets, or the only target is destroyed in response).
- ORing B enters. It's only possible target is ring A. A is exiled.
- ORing C enters. It's only possible target is ring B. B is exiled, and A returns
- A's only possible target is C. C is exiled, and B returns.
- B's only possible target is A. A goes away again, C returns...
And it goes on and on forever...
That's hilarious! :)
thanks gorzo, I wasn't entirely sure of the exact mechanics, and your post was much more eloquent. Since I've been posting on here, I've seen a lot of people who have such an intimate knowledge of the game and rules, it's amazing. Especially in a game that has seemingly endless rulings. I really appreciate all the help I've received from you all, and I look forward to posting more.
Yes, thanks Gorzo, that makes a ton more sense
