Title: The Mimeoplasm
Post by: FireCrafted on July 06, 2013, 03:59:57 AM
If {The Mimeoplasm} enters as one card but the card exiled for counters is */* say {crusader of Odric} or {ancient ooze} does star revert to zero or would it get the actual number of counters?

It would get 0/0 because the effect that the {crusader of odric} gives is not recognized by the {mimeoplasm}

Those *\* abilities that define power/toughness like on {Crusader of Odric} function at all times, even when the card is not on the battlefield, to define that card's power/toughness values. Because of that, {The Mimeoplasm} would indeed get the corresponding number of counters from it.

Note, however that *\* is different from X/X in this behavior.

Awesome thanks Gorzo. That works very well with my ancient ooze ideas :) {Skithiryx, the blight dragon} anyone?

One more question, since ancient ooze says its p/t are the mana cost of *other* creatures you control and since for all intents and purposes Mimeoplasm is NOT ancient ooze, would Mimeoplasms mana cost count towards his own counters? Even if he were to be the only creature I control?

I think that is correct. But I'm not 100% sure on that one. That is a wonky interaction you have going on there, you should submit it to DCI as a judge test exam question :P

I got screwed two months into me playing magic then. I was going off a ruling that I was told by what I think was an L2 judge....smh

In {Ancient Ooze}'s text, the words "Ancient Ooze" really mean "this creature." If {The Mimeoplasm} is a copy of it, that's still true. It now reads as "The Mimeoplasm's power and toughness..." So it would not count itself.

"Equal to the total converted mana cost of OTHER creatures you contol"?

Yeah so if he was a copy of [insert other creature here] would his own mana cost go towards his power/toughness?

No. He is not another creature. He is himself. It would say all creatures if that was the intent.

If you're becoming a copy of him, yeah, it doesn't count (for reasons you guys are stating), but he's asking if it counts if you're using the ooze for the second part, the adding of counters after Mimeoplasm has copied a different creature. The ooze is not Mimeoplasm, and it's power and toughness are being determined regardless of zone by its ability - that power and toughness would include the Mimeoplasm, a creature on the battlefield that is not the ooze.
