I was looking through the banned cards for Modern format. And am curious why these two cards are prohibited. {Vault of Whispers} and {Great Furnace} is their something special about artifact lands?
Affinity
All the artifact lands are banned (except {Darksteel Citadel}) because you can play more then 1 on a turn. So you can play a {mountain}, and 4 {Great Furnace}s on turn 1.
And Affinity...

... This is not true, that is the reason the moxes were banned.
??? Really. My brother lied to me then...
Well, then Affinity, which is broken enough already. :)
I was about to freak out and buy a a lot of artifact lands if you could play more than one per turn don't startle me like that flick!
What's the colorless card called because I only have Great furnace and Vault of whispers

Here's the thing. Like everyone said, it's affinity. Before the ban, artifact decks ran playsets of the arti-lands in whatever colors necessary; they counted towards affinity for artifacts, and could be hit easily due to abundance. This made affinity broken as f---, so all but the colorless one got banned
Modern came out the gates with bans. I don't know if the artifact lands were ever legal in the format. They remembered how degenerate they were in Standard.
