Title: Contagion engine
Post by: Richardalcala on March 04, 2012, 02:46:25 AM
Playing with a friend and I don't want to cheat em. When I use {contagion engine} do I proliferate two times period or can I chose two targets and give them two counters apiece. Thanks.

You must proliferate once, choosing some or all counters to add another to and then proliferate a second time in which you could choose the same or different target counters as the first time.

You know that each te you proliferate, you can chose any number of permanents, right?

Thanks. Yes that is what I was trying to tell my friend but he thought only two times period.

Can't you choose only one counter? It says "...give each another counter of {A} kind already there." So you can choose as many players and/or perms as you want, but only add one counter per player/perm. Is this correct?

That's right, but you can chose a different type of counter for the first proliferate than the second. It doesn't have to be the same both times.

Now here's the tricky part. Is there any time for state based effects to cancel out counters (say a +1 on a {pyreheart wolf}) so I won't be able to take it down without it coming back as it was?
Or do they follow on before the sbe happens?

Lol sorry
Let's say my opponent has a {pyreheart wolf} with one undying counter on it (making its p/t = 2/2)
Now I play my {contagion engine} adding a -1 counter to it and lets say i also play the proliferate and proliferate again all in the same turn. (doing up to 3 damage normally)
My question is when does the sbe take place?
eg. between the time I place my first -1 counter on it and then the proliferate x2, or at the end of the main phase when I played it?

The state is checked as soon as a player gets priority. The first chance you will have to proliferate, the two counters will already have been removed. There will be nothing on the wolf to proliferate.

You couldn't add the -1 counter on it because it does not have a -1. You can only add counters they already have
