Yesterday one of my friends did one, I ended up running naya almost every round I went up against naya , I ended up in 7th out if 7
Gate crash was a tough set to draft by itself if you weren't familiar with how it drafts. It was one of those sets with a very set-in strategy of "agro agro agro," and if you didn't draft 2 color agro, curving topped at 3-4, you lost 9 times out of 10.
I had no plan, I just went off the first two rates and got naya out of it
Normally that's a pretty good idea (assume those rares aren't terrible, like {Search the city} or something). Unfortunately GateCrash was just weird like that. Many rares were passed for commons at my LGS. Even half the mythics were passed in favor of {madcap skills}. I was once passed a shock land because the guy next to opted to take the {Wojek Halberdiers}.
Aurelia's fury passed through 5 people before it taken by the guy next to me
I have done A LOT of GTC drafts, I agree that Agro was definantly a great way to go, and it was an easy set to splash that third color in (especially red or green) merely for bloodrush or ramp. I personally like RGW or BWU in the form of 3 colors. And let me tell you if no one else is drafting simic and you can get a lot of good simic cards, it can get out of control REALLY fast. Simic sucks on its own but for draft it's actually really good (unless someone has a ridiculously fast Boros deck. All in all GTC is very fun to draft, and personally I like to draft it or RTR better than the block drafts that my store is holding now. The block draft is hard because now you have all 10 guilds and only 5 of each in 2 of the packs. Play a lot and you'll get the hang of it. If you notice other people not drafting certain colors, sometimes it pays to change over into those colors so you get the best of those cards. Hope this helps!
Yeah it wasn't my first rodeo, I was one of two experienced drafters there
Aight that's good to hear!
Yeah we both ran naya
