This weakened, i had to move a desk because an area of my house likes to flood Slightly) and i didn't want the bottom of the legs of the desk to get ruined. now yesterday, i looked under the desk and found a web with a lot of baby spiders, and a mother spider. killing them is not an option. so what I'm wanting to know is, how do i get them outside without killing them and what kind of spider is it?
the spider looks like a daddy long legs, but it's abdomen is too big. it's legs are also too short and thick. it's legs are amber brown, and it's body is tan brown. again, no matter what it is, killing it is NOT an option
Well if you dont want to kill it then im sorry maybe you should just befriend them :) theyre probably just looking for a big friend to protect them from the other 6 billion trying to eradicate their race
It's not a brown recluse, is it??
If it is, you're going to have a horrible time leaving them all alive.

This. Google "brown recluse bite" and maybe you'll think twice about not wanting to kill them. It sounds like that's what they are. If you live near a heavily wooded area, then im 90% positive thats what they are just based off of your description.
Aside from killing them, a slightly more brazen option is to get a hand vacuum (Dirt Devil, for example) and sucking them up and dumping the bag outside.

My advice, avoid doing so while eating like I was. I've seen those pictures before, but it still grosses me out lol
Dude just kill them for everyone sake. Theyre evil scary spiders
Actually, what state do you live in, Birdbrain? That could tell a lot lol

let me make this clear. I will not kill these poor creatures, no matter what they are. They are living things, and if i have to move the desk outside and let it get ruined from the rain i will. I am against killing anything except for food, and nothing anyone says will ever change my mind

Hahah it's pretty bad.
Do you have pets, Birdbrain?
Sounds like a brown recluse, especially if you're in the Ozarks. If you want to leave it alive, then you'd best just leave it be.
Well then be safe with em, especially if they are brown recluse
Brown Recluse spider's non-aggressive, but, if that is what they are, be careful. Basically all bites have been from a spider feeling threatened and defending itself. If you've got an entire nest of them, that mother is sure as hell going to be defensive.
If you absolutely have to leave them alive, just be careful where you place your hands on the desk. May be worth it to wear some kind of thick gloves while moving it in case she does attack. Make sure to inspect your clothing thoroughly before you put it on. The babies will move out and your house will be the first place many of them go. From what I've gathered, they'll go to dark places and camp out there. A sweatshirt or something you threw on the ground would prove to be a good spot for them to chill out. Then you put that sweatshirt on and they're whole world is being shaken and rolled and suddenly, there's your arm and they bite thinking they're in danger.
Granted, if it's not a brown recluse, then it is probably just a common house spider and there's nothing to really fear. May want to make sure that is what it is.

I'm kinda like you in the sense that I don't kill anything that isn't a mosquito or an earwig, but in this case, I'd kill the spiders. If the eggs have all already hatched, they're going to be everywhere. While spiders are beneficial to keep around, they can still be a danger. Just something to keep in mind.
I almos had a heart attack when we scared a momma spider, unleashing hundreds of unseen babies acros our back porch. Since that day it has been my mission to eliminate them
Guys... It's missouri. I used to live up there and for like 90% of all spiders up there, they are daddy long legs.
Completely harmless.
A picture actually could help at this point for us to diagnose your problem as a harmless group of spiders or a spider whose bite will cause skin to go necrotic.
I'll give you my email if you want an answer.
The body of a daddy long legs is tiny. We've got em all over the place here. Brown recluses have a much bigger looking body.
I'm interested to see what you've got, Birdbrain. Let us know!

So you would rather die than kill a rabid dog attacking you?
I have not read the rest of the thread, but what you have is the brown recluse. This thing delivers a nasty bite that will fester and rot the skin around it. My friend got bitten by one once, and he still has a scar about the size of a penny on his arm. If you won't kill them, you need to remove them another way. I would suggest removing the chair leg if that's a possibility and just putting it outside. Then I would don gloves and scrape them off carefully.

Would the dog really be considered alive at that point? If it isn't put down, it will die from its sickness. To stop it from attacking, you have to put it down. In a sense, wouldn't rabies be a form of zombification?
Spiders just terrify me, even more than staring into the face of an angry {Emrakul the Aeons Torn}. I would personally just call someone to stomp the living crap out of them. 😱
Yeah move those fast
Brown recluse are nasty
I don't know now. It doesn't realy look like the spider in the picture. Might just be a daddy long legs
Good on bird. I'm a spider fan too. The real poisonous varieties are few in number and can be identified with out too much trouble (though a few unfortunate benign varieties do look very similar and tend to get targeted by shoes). Plus, the internet is rife with misinformation (who would've thought) and innaccurate pictures about brown recluse bites and though necrosis from their bites can occur much of the internet e-gore is just plain bogus. I'd toss the mom in a jar and check with a pest control specialist or someone else a bit less layman than all of us before deciding their fate. If its all good just scoop up the babies with a paper towel and deposit them in a dry dark place like under a porch. It never hurts to use a glove, though, just in case.
And Bird, I value the sanctity of all life but if it's a brown recluse kill it. A live family of those are a damoclean sword for your home.
You won't kill to protect your own life? I understand protecting life and nature, but that is the way of the nature: things kill each other to eat, survive, eliminate competition and procreate. If you kill every spider that gets in your house, the ones that are afraid of human beings will procreate more than the ones who are not, it is called natural selection. Every living being is a part of the process
I took a pic with my phone...how do I post it?
Post it in any online holster (even Facebook), right click, copy image URL, post it here like this:
[img*]http://url_here[/img*](without asterisks)
I may be wrong about the BB code. If so, just edit it and post the URL directly here
I'd kill an animal for food, in defense, or if it is a pest that doesn't belong to someone else, Ex. I would kill a fly, gnat, or mosquito without resentment, but I'm not about to go shoot my neighbor's dog because it keeps barking. :/ I'd kill them if I were you, but I'm not, so I recommend getting rid of them in some other way, possibly taking the desk outside, putting the spiders in a container, and then releasing them back onto a tree or something.

👆spi-I-I-I-der-sssss *shiver, shiver*
I live in Australia, and let me just say, some spiders are much better off dead. Some spiders here will kill a small child, where as others don't warrant a second look.
I actually wanted to have a pet tarantula when I was growing up, but I think my parents would have killed it.
Proper identification really helps when determining a spiders fate, and it sounds like if you are on the brink of infestation you have a bit of a choice. Do it the easy way now, or pay a professional to come and spray your house every year for 2 years until they are gone.
As mentioned survival of the fittest does apply here. Relocation may be an option but in a far better habitat than just outside your house would be more appropriate.
Spiders are fascinating creatures, but a healthy respect is always necessary when dealing with poisonous varieties.
Lastly I too understand if it was the last spider of that variety on Earth, it should be protected and saved etc, but I highly doubt this is the case. If its caused this much concern, then kill it and move on. There will be more to take its place soon enough.
I'm not going to kill them. I'm going to move them outside
Found a brown recluse in my shower. Doesn't mean the nest are brown recluse's. anyway, ill get the pic up sometime in the next couple of weeks

Well at least now you've seen one so you can compare it to the nest.
Also: the best time to find a poisonous spider? Obviously when you're naked!
The brown recluse looked nothing like the mother in the nest, so I think its a daddy long legs of some kind. Which are herbivores by the way
Yeah long-legs are harmless. You still don't want them building a hive inside your home, though. I'd just double check via Internet resources that they are just long-legs and non-poisonous, and if they aren't, put some rubber cleaning gloves on, get them and what're dug into in a big trash bag, and haul those suckers on outside to a better home.
Found a small green spider crawling on my leg today. Going to put it in my garden. What varieties are small and green?
ONES THAT KILL YOU!!!!!! 💀💀💀
small and brown may be common house spiders, I know which ones are small and green but can't remember the name, they aren't really dangerous though

I heard they had enough venom to kill a human but their fangs arent sharp enough to pierce human skin even if they tried... Didnt know they were herbivores.... Cool

Because everyone here has been misusing the name daddy long legs, an actual daddy long legs isn't a spider what everyone here is talking about is actually called a cellar spider, not a daddy long legs
