Title: DGM/GTC/RTR Draft
Post by: Frothandslosh on June 12, 2013, 08:29:36 PM
I'm headed to a booster draft tomorrow (my first one ever) and was wondering if anyone had any tips for me for both this specific draft and drafting in general?

I should mention that this draft consists of:

First pack: DGM

Second pack: GTC

Third pack: RTR

Go aggro!  also a lot of people use the gatekeepers but that would involve you having to draft gates. They are really good in this format. Oh and try to stick to a Max of 3 colors.

Can anyone suggest rares to avoid drafting in the DGM pack?

It's the "order of which you should pick your cards" from a pack

B - Bombs - cards that, if not removed/ dealt with right away/very fast, will win you the game. Ex: {Ruric Thar, the Unbowed}.

R - Removal - Cards that remove, deal with, kill, or stop your opponent's bombs or threats. Ex: {Gaze of Granite}, {Homing Lightning}

E - Evasion - Creatures that are difficult to block, be it through flying, unblockable, or conditions that make blocking unfavorable. Ex: {Wind Drake}, {Deathcult Rogue}, {Beetleform Mage}

A - Aggression - cards (mostly creatures) that favor playing aggressively. This means low mana cost with high efficiency. Haste is great. Ex: {Spike Jester}, {Riot Piker}

D - Duds - everything left in the pack is not useful. You are now tasked with the choice of either taking the least useless card in the hopes you might find a use for it (possible sideboard or color splash options), take a good off-color card just to keep other players from having it in their decks (hate-drafting), or just taking garbage to move on.

{Trait Doctoring} is terrible, don't take it.

{Emmara Tandris} isn't good enough to play, her mana cost is too high to make her worthwhile in anything but commander.

{Possibility Storm} and {Catch // Release} aren't worth it either.

Thanks gorzo. Sorry I didn't give the explanation, I've been out and just got home.

Thanks for the acronym/definition! I actually looked it up and foun an Evan Erwin article describing the meaning, but it seemed a bit out of date block-wise.
