And sure, as long as you tap it to add mana to your mana pool. Spending the mana isn't part of the effect, so it's fine if you don't use it.

Why would you not want to deal the one damage?
I meant tapping for mana and not using the mana, and dealing 1 damage in the process.
As in, do I need to use the mana. Keyeto has answered ;)
Fortunately with no mana burn you can always add stuff to your mana pool without much thought

I replaced my {Birds of Paradise} cards for the {Zhur-Taa Druid} and they work surprisingly well. I miss choosing any color but in a red and green deck it has added a lot of extra free damage, even on turns when I didn't need the mana I would use it on the opponents end phase.
I used to miss mana burn too, but I don't miss everyone killing themselves with it to give up.
